From the Executive Director
What a remarkable way to start 2016: the $1.5 BILLION world-record Powerball® jackpot in January was not
only phenomenal for Lottery retailers, but also for the older Pennsylvanians who benefit from Lottery sales.
The historic Powerball jackpot run that started in November produced a total of more than $175.8 million in
ticket sales. That translated into nearly $8.8 million in sales commissions for retailers. Along the way, nearly
3.3 million Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball players won more than $33.2 million in prizes while programs
benefiting older Pennsylvanians received nearly $70 million in proceeds from ticket sales. Those are some
astounding results!
This success would not have been possible without the hard work of our more than 9,000 retailers, so I want to
offer my sincere thanks for your support. Please remind your players that any jackpot, regardless of size, can be
a life-changer – and to always play responsibly.
Please enjoy this edition of the Sales Maker and be sure to visit our new and improved Retailer Portal. Once
again, thank you for your partnership with the Pennsylvania Lottery.
Best in Selling,
Drew Svitko

Tech Talk Tip
Credit Limit for ITVM is Now $100
Due to overwhelming player demand, the
maximum dollar amount/credit limit on Instant
Ticket Vending Machines (ITVMs) has recently
been increased to $100 on all ITVMs throughout
the state.
Previously, the ITVM would accept a maximum of
$40 per transaction.
While the maximum credit amount has increased,
the individual dollar denominations the machines
will accept have not changed. The units will
accept up to and including a $20 bill ($1, $5, $10
& $20). Importantly, $50 and $100 bills are not
accepted.
Retailer Profile:
Giant Eagle Holiday Decorating Contest
The Giant Eagle grocery chain knows the importance of Lottery
sales throughout the busy holiday season.
According to Giant Eagle, “The holiday season is an
important time for Giant Eagle and our customers. One way
in which we bring the spirit of the season to life in our
stores is by hosting an instant ticket machine
decorating contest across all of our supermarket locations.
This is a fun and festive way for our Team Members to
showcase their creativity, inspire holiday cheer and to
remind customers that instant tickets from the PA
Lottery make wonderful holiday gifts for those left on
their lists.”
In addition to the decorating contest for associates, Giant Eagle
gave their Lottery customers a second chance to win through their Holiday
Instant Ticket second-chance drawing. Customers who purchased a $5,
$10, or $20 holiday instant tickets were able to enter the drawing via the
Giant Eagle website. Prizes included Giant Eagle gift cards and Lottery
tickets.
Please speak to your District Lottery Representative or account manager to
discuss ways to tailor promotions to fit your business needs.

Retailer Portal Website:
Always Improving
We are proud to introduce our latest enhancements to the Retailer Portal website. Based on feedback we received
from our retailers, these enhancements mark our continuing efforts to meet the ever-changing needs of our
retailers. We are already working on the next phase of improvement and welcome suggestions from retailers.
Report Standardization
All reports have been updated to ensure a consistent look.
Existing Report Updates
Inventory Reconciliation Report
A DLR Pickup column has been added, indicating the date a pack was picked up by the District Lottery
Representative.
Instant Summary By Game and Instant Summary By Status Reports
The Settled column now includes packs settled within the last 7 days, as opposed to the current 45 days.
Each Tuesday, the data will reset to zero.
Pennsylvania Lottery Instant Games Report
Two column headers have been updated: Price Per Ticket will now be Ticket Price and Value Per Pack will
now be Pack Value.
Activations and Settlements Report
An Interval field has been added to the report parameters, giving retailers the ability to see packs that
were activated and settled within a particular number of minutes within the specified date range.
New Reports
Based on feedback from our retailers, we were pleased to add two new reports:
Combined Settlement
Shows the same data as the Settlement Report, but combines data for retailers
with multiple terminal numbers, providing overall figures for each retail location on one line.
13-Week Sales
Displays the total and average weekly sales, by retailer, for the last 13 full accounting weeks.

Tickets Generated in Error CAN Win!
Just ask Michael Donnelly, a Virginia grocery store employee
who accidentally printed a Cash4Life™ ticket when a player
asked for a different game. The customer didn’t want the
ticket, so Michael bought it.
The ticket ended up being a top-prize winner! Michael
could have taken the annuity prize of $1,000 a day for life,
but opted to take home the $7 million cash prize.
Remember: a ticket generated in error is a live ticket and can
win a prize. Ask your District Lottery Representative for tips
on ways to sell such tickets because some players actually
seek them out.
