In English the children will
be developing their skills in
a range of different ways, in
storytelling, non-fiction
writing, poetry, drama and
role play. We will use the
book, The Matchbox diary, as a
stimulus to develop literacy
skills.
The children will be
exploring different
periods in History
in individual topics
and placing them on
a timeline.
SCIENCE
The children will be describing
the differences in the life
cycles of a mammal, an
amphibian, an insect and a bird.
They will be describing the life
process of reproduction in some
plants and animals also
describing the changes as humans
develop to old age.
PE
The children will be
learning athletics
and fielding and
stricking games.
MUSIC
In music the children will
be using music technology
skills to compose background
music to complement their
exhibits for their class
museum.
PSHE
The children will be
learning about how
the body changes as
they approach
puberty.
They will recognise
how people's
emotions change and
how to deal with
their feelings in a
positive way.
GEOGRAPHY
In Geography the children will
be exploring different
countries and their
characteristics. They will be
looking at the 7 wonders of the
world, food from different
countries and cultures and
exploring strange places.
FRENCH
ART AND DESIGN
The children will
be speaking in
sentences, using
familiar
vocabulary, phrases
and develop
accurate
pronunciation.
We will be looking at the
artist Chris Ofili and
will be producing
paintings in his style
and also trying different
print processes,
reflecting on and
improving their prints.
RE
We will be
learning why the
gospel is so
important to
Christians and
also how
Buddhists find
enlightenment.
DESIGN AND FOOD TECHNOLOGY
The children will be designing, making
and evaluating matchboxes. They will be
exploring and making food from different
countries.
They will make links between different
topic areas and DT, creating sculptures
and artefacts.
Year 5 will be developing a museum, including
work based on their topic, for their families to
enjoy.
