Summary Announcement
Princeton University’s Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students (ODUS) seeks an energetic,
collaborative, and diplomatic candidate to serve as Whig-Clio Program Coordinator. The American WhigCliosophic Society is the oldest collegiate political, literary, and debating union in the nation. Founded in 1765
by several prominent Princetonians, including James Madison and Aaron Burr, a friendly rivalry continues to
exist between the two parties, Whig and Clio. Today, the American Whig-Cliosophic Society seeks to promote
intellectual discourse and functions as the center of campus debate.
Position Description
Reporting to the assistant dean of undergraduate students, the program coordinator will play a central role in
advising the American Whig-Cliosophic Society and its subsidiaries, including the International Relations
Council, Princeton Debate Panel, Mock Trial, and Princeton Model Congress. The program coordinator assists
in the daily management of events sponsored by the Society as well as its resources, including Whig Hall and
the Society's van, which support the Society's goals and objectives. The program coordinator also works closely
with student leaders and organizations to provide centralized and cohesive advising and coordination.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
•
Serves as the primary advisor to the Society and its subsidiaries. Meets regularly with student group
leaders to discuss events, logistics, initiatives, and overall strategy for campus programming and
competitions. Serves as a bridge between student leaders and key university offices.
•
Assists with large-scale conferences and tournaments that are hosted both on and off campus. Provides
the first review of contracts with off-site service providers such as hotels, caterers, transportation
providers, and media and audio-visual support staff. In some instances, travels with subsidiaries to
conferences and offers on-site support.
•
Assists with daily operations and maintenance of Whig Hall and its artwork and historical resources all
other physical equipment the Society owns and utilizes. Also, oversees the Society's van. Responsible
for ensuring non-Society groups pay building usage fees to cover costs associated with building upkeep.
Serves as an "on site" resource for all inquiries during business hours.
•
Advises organizations on financial and budgetary matters and applicable University financial policies.
Assists students with invoice processing, student and vendor reimbursements, Princeton Prime, and
reconciling all accounts affiliated with the Society.
•
Works closely with the Woodrow Wilson Honorary Debate Panel (WWHDP) president to set the prize
schedule for the prize debates and speaking contests, including the preliminary and final rounds. In
addition, provides guidance to the WWHDP to ensure the prizes are in compliance with gift
agreements and trustee directives.
•
Supports students in their travel to various competitions and tournaments, both nationally and
internationally.
•
Develops outreach efforts to strengthen the abilities and leadership development of undergraduate
student leaders. Develops programs that highlight the importance of leading ambitious organizations
within a diverse student body. Formally assesses and documents ODUS's work with student
organizations and gathers feedback from student leaders to improve and enhance ODUS's policies and
procedures on an ongoing basis.

Works with the Student Organizations and Activities Team within ODUS to support large campus
events and to document and assess the Team's work on a semiannual basis.
•
Works with undergraduate leaders to promote the Society generally on campus.
•
Participates in the development of policies and programs affecting undergraduates.
•
Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
•
Experience with and understanding of activities and programs sponsored by Princeton undergraduate
student organizations.
•
Ability to coordinate and prioritize a demanding schedule and a diverse portfolio of responsibilities.
•
Strong analytical skills and an ability to communicate orally and in writing.
•
Strong interpersonal skills as well as a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and interact
effectively with students, alumni, faculty members, and administrators.
•
Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of students from diverse backgrounds.
•
Creativity in advising student organizations on the planning and implementation of programs.
•
Working knowledge of the current Princeton undergraduate social and co-curricular environment.
•
Excellent organization and problem-solving skills.
•
Availability to work a number of nights and weekends during the academic year in order to ensure
proper oversight of programs and events.
The final candidate will be required to complete a background check successfully.
