COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
CSUEB supports programs that foster social responsibility among
our students and within the community. Through community
engagement, students contribute to the public good by applying
learning outside the classroom, and develop skills that prepare
them to meet the challenges of the future. In the 2014-15 academic
year, CSUEB offered 335 service learning courses that included
7,600 students and contributed roughly 263,000 hours of service
to the East Bay region. In the spring, 1,225 freshmen participated
in the fourth annual Freshmen Day of Service, which amounted
to 77 projects in 15 cities and 4,775 hours of service. Pioneers for
Change, the Center for Community Engagement’s student service
learning leadership program, provided 4,300 hours of service.
