Roll two foam number cubes to create two equations. For example : 4+5 6+4 What sign would we put between these two equations? (<) Create a few more examples for the entire class to work on. Then divide the class into pairs and pass out a set of comparison signs and foam number cubes to each pair. The partners should sit shoulder to shoulder so they can view the signs from the same direction. Have one partner roll the cubes to create an equation (as you did during the whole class activity). Have the other partner decide which comparison sign (<, >, or =) is appropriate for the equation. Partners should take turns creating math equations and deciding on which comparison sign fits the equations. Students below grade level can compare addition equations, while more advanced students can compare addition, subtraction and multiplication equations. © 2015 Zeno, All Rights Reserved - Comparison Signs sheet - Foam number cubes - UNO® by Mattel Comparison Symbols < > = < > = < > = < > = © 2015 Zeno, All Rights Reserved
