Putting Our Dead Poets Back on the Map

Putting Our Dead Poets Back on the Map
List of American Poets
for Dead Poets Maps
This is a list of over 600 American poets compiled for the “Dead Poets” Maps, a 20092010 project of the Dead Poets Society of America. The names were added by
consulting the reference works and online resources cited at the bottom.
The purpose of the maps is for people to document the gravesites, and sometimes
memorials, of American poets. This way the public can help to enrich the cultural and
historical commons by “diggʼn up” dead poets. Probably only 40% of the poetsʼ graves
have been documented to date, so the online maps serve as references for those
helping to research, and put our dead poets back on the map!
This is the list as of February 13, 2010. The Maps for individual states and regions can
be accessed here: http://deadpoes.org/help1.html
STATE MAPS
The names on this list of American poets organized by state and region correspond to
Dead Poets Maps (http://deadpoes.org/help1.html). Names on the state lists are either
arranged chronologically, according to when a poet was added to a map, or
alphabetically. There are also some duplicates, as some poets are closely associated
with more than one state.
