1. Cut out the individual rectangle shapes for each pattern.
2. For the poison dart frog, score the dotted line using a ruler and a paper scoring tool or the tip of a nail.
Press hard enough to crease paper but not tear it.
3. Fold the pattern rectangle for the poison dart frog and crease sharply along the dotted line.
4. With the rectangle folded, carefully cut along the pattern line and cut the animal out.
5. Open up the cut shape to reveal a symmetrical animal.

6. While open, color the entire top side of the poison dart frog’s body. Create patterns that are
symmetrical and colorful.
7. Color the bottom sides of the poison dart frog a solid color as part of these will show when mounted.
Do not fold the fish. Color it, cut it out, and then color the back side.
8. Let colored animal bodies dry, then refold with a sharp crease down the center dotted line.

Before coloring, students can use a compass to inscribe concentric
arcs on the roof and a ruler to draw radial lines from the center out
to the circumference line. This will give them guidelines in drawing
patterns that radiate out from the tip of the cone-shaped roof.

Rainforest Animal Patterns
SOLID lines are CUT; DOTTED lines are FOLD lines.
Follow the pictures on the “HOW TO” sheet to see how to build the platform, the hut and roof, and
the trees and foliage.
1. Print this pattern sheet on 11" x 17" card stock, one sheet per student.
2. Cut out the individual rectangle shapes for each pattern.
