Taylor and Francis
This is multidisciplinary database provides access a variety of subjects including the Arts,
Behavioural Sciences, Education, Languages, Leisure & Tourism, Media, Nursing and the Science
disciplines from Taylor & Francis, Routledge and Psychology Press.

1. Searching
The database automatically defaults to the Browse screen with a simple search box. This allows
you to browse by publication title or by subject.
To perform an indepth research click on the Advanced and Citation Search link.
2. Search Tips
You can also do a Citation Search to look for a particular reference in Informaworld and Search
History allows you to rerun or modify previous searches (if you haven’t logged out)
2.1. Boolean Search Operators/Phrase: Boolean search operators AND, OR and NOT allow you
to search more effectively, creating very broad or very narrow searches. Click on one of these from
the drop-down menu when inputting your search.
AND
-
Narrows a search to find records with all search terms: i.e. travel and
Europe finds articles that contain both travel and Europe.
OR
-
Widens a search to find records that contains at least one of the terms: i.e. college
or university finds results that contain either college or university
NOT
-
To exclude terms i.e. finds records that contain one term but not another
2.2 The wildcard symbol is an asterisk (*) can be used to replace the ending of the root of a word
to find all forms/endings of that word, i.e. comput* will find results for computer, computers,
computing, computational etc.
2.3 Limiting searches - To find full text journal articles on a particular subject, a search query
must be formulated. It may be useful to consult an Index or Thesaurus to clarify your search
terms.
For example: to find articles on
“outdoor education”
Enter your search terms in the
Keywords box ie outdoor and
education
Ensure the option “only content I
have full access to” is highlighted
Tick the Journals option
3. Displaying Results
The results are displayed at the bottom of the screen (you will need to scroll down) in order of
relevance; alternatively this can be sorted by title A-Z, publication date or author.
The results show the title of the article, author, journal title, volume, issue, page numbers and year
of publication. There are a number of options: download or view full text, first page preview and
related (articles)
Clicking on the title of an article provides a summary or abstract. Keywords are displayed and a
link to the pdf full text
4. Save Searches
Click on Advanced search (found on the right-hand side of the search bar) and enter your required
search criteria.
At the bottom of the page you will be able to name this search and say whether you would like to
receive alerts relating to this search. Click Save Search.
At this point you can enter your email address to get updates. In order to manage your saved
searches you will need to register or sign in.
Further guidance is available using the HELP button on the toolbar or from your Academic Liaison
Librarian.
5. To Exit close the browser.
