SKILL: LINE SYMMETRY Mirror, Mirror A pattern or shape that has line symmetry contains a mirror image of its parts on either side of a straight line. Think about the shapes of a sea star or a butterfly. MATH TUTORIAL CLASSZONE.COM Click on Math Tutorial for more help with line symmetry. Example If you were to cut these shapes out of flat paper, you could fold the paper along a line of symmetry. The two halves would match. Some shapes have more than one line of symmetry. The shapes of most anemones and sea stars can fold along two, three, or more lines of symmetry. Sketch each shape. Then draw any lines of symmetry. If there are none, write ”zero.“ 1) 2) 4) 3) 5) CHALLENGE Write out the uppercase letters of the alphabet A to Z. For each letter, write whether it has zero, one, or two lines of symmetry.
