Presidential Election Commercials
Commercial #1 (Glittering Generalities, Just Plain Folk and Transfer)

This commercial must contain the following in order to receive a passing grade and to be shown in the
election:
o Follow commercial guideline.
o Three different “glittering generalities”
o Three different “just plain folk” images
o One “transfer” image
o Mention candidate, VP and party.
o Minimal in-school filming.
o Must be a minimum of 25 seconds long
o Either music or a voice over
o A picture of the candidate and the candidate speaking the phrase “Hi, I’m ____ and I support this
message”
Commercial #2 (Card Stacking)
 This commercial must have the following in order to receive a passing grade and to be shown in the
election:
o Follow commercial guidelines
o Card stacking strategies that attack at least two parts of a candidates platform issues. The heavy
use of exaggeration and hyperbole is needed here.
o A picture of the opponent who the commercial is addressing.
o Other pictures related to the topic of the commercial.
o Still life pictures must be used. Very minimal video should be used in this commercial.
o Must have a voice over or information on the screen
o Minimal in-school filming
o Must be a minimum of 25 seconds long.
o A picture of the candidate and the candidate speaking the phrase “Hi, I’m ____ and I support this
message”
Commercial #3 (Commercial that can use any of the strategies taught in class)
 This commercial must follow the commercial guidelines.

Commercials cannot be dangerous.
They must be school appropriate.
They must be in good taste with
No sex, alcohol, drug, etc. themes.
All actions in the commercial must be legal.
Commercials must have a political theme.
The commercials must use some of the strategies used in actual campaign commercials
They cannot run down your opponent personally. You can, however, run down their platform and
views.
