Accessing INSIGHT

Navigating to the website

INSIGHT is accessed through the internet. To access it, either enter this below web address into your browser https://insight.cabot.ac.uk/INSIGHT/secure.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fINSIGHT%2fInfo.aspx ,
Alternatively, navigate to the John Cabot Website (http://cabot.ac.uk/) where on the home page, you will see an
INSIGHT logo, clicking on this takes you through to the INSIGHT site.

Once on the INSIGHT homepage, you will be presented with a box to enter your username and password, as
shown below;
NOTE: Login details are sent using the email address we have stored on our database, if the email does not arrive, please
call the school on 01179763000.

If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it on the website login screen.

If the system recognies your email address, it will send an email to you, and the screen will display a message
to state it has been successful, as shown below:

Logging in for the first time
When logging on for the first time a user will be required to change the system-generated password
provided. One logged in, the user will see the following screen:

Any new password chosen is required to be at least seven characters.

The homepage snapshot.
Once logged in, the first thing a user will see is their child’s homepage. This screen contains summaries of all
the main data available via the parent portal

Notices
A banner displays the number of unread notice messages that you have been sent. Clicking on this blue banner
will display the notices.
2.1.2
Colour coded summary panels
These panels provides a quick indication of the student’s performance, green is good, amber is average/
satisfactory and the red panels indicate that there may be an issue.
Clicking on any of these panels navigates the user to the relevant data section. For example, by clicking on the
behaviour panel, the user would then see the respective behaviour details. (This can be also access via the
main menu option at the top of the screen.)

The home page displays the student’s timetable for the current day; this includes the time, subject and
Teacher name and the room in which it takes place.

Achievement and Behaviour
The two panels at the bottom display figures for the amount of respective achievements or behaviour for the
day, current week, current term, for the academic year and overall.
Clicking on one of these panels takes the user to the relevant section, giving more detaila about each logged
case.

2.2
Navigating the INSIGHT Parent Portal
INSIGHT has a main menu system at the top of the page, as shown below. Each menu options has some sub
menu options. The options may change over time as more menus and data becomes available as the school
opens up new sections of the site.
2.2.1
General
Within the General menu option, currently there are four options.

Snapshot – As previously mentioned, this takes the user back to the home page summary.

Personal Details – This displays the personal details we currently hold in our database. Any field
underlined in blue can be clicked on (see below example) and a change request being submitted by
the parent. This will then trigger an authorising task to one of the school staff to approve. Once
approved our main database will be updated.
The below example shows what is displayed should a user click on the first language field. There is a
list of options for the parent to choose from; however, a separate guide will be produced to go into
further details about requesting changes.
If a change is requested, the relevant field(s) will display an exclamation mark, as shown below.

Timetable- Whilst a timetable for the current day is displayed on the home page snapshot summary, this option
will display the current week’s timetable, as shown below.

On this screen, the default is to show the ‘detail’ view. This displays the Am and Pm attendance marks for each day, by
week, for the current academic term.

Code Summary – This shows a breakdown of a % for each type of mark. The number of different marks will
depend on what marks the student has received.

Statistical Summary - The statistical summary shows the student’s attendance broken down into statistical
bands. Each attendance code has a statistical meaning, which is shown here. These are the figures that the
government will report on and the percentage that can define a student as a persistent absentee.

Attendance by Session - The attendance by session view breaks a student’s attendance down into days of the
week, as well as AM/PM. This will help parents identify any days of the week where their child is struggling to
arrive at school on time or taking more time off, perhaps because of travel arrangements.

Each day is colour coded – Green = Present for both sessions, Pink denotes an absence in one of more
of the sessions.

This option displays a comparison graph, plotting the student against the average for their tutor group
and Year statistics. The second graph shows is the student has dropped below a set threshold, in this case

the type of achievement the class and subject and the teacher that recorded the event, as shown in the

This section is where any detentions that have been assigned to the student are listed. The type of
