WHAM Trail Riding Program

Location
The Walking Horse Association of Michigan offers awards on to those
members who shall accumulate hours on the trail. The WHAM trail riding program is as follows.
Section A. Eligibility:
1. The rider or must be a current member in good standing of
WHAM, having either a family, single or youth membership. (Art
II, sect. 2, bylaws).
2. Riders may contact the regional trail riding program (TRP) coordinator to obtain a log book or print the log book off the WHAM
website.
3. Awards will be given only for hours ridden. Hours accumulated
on the rider, not the horse.
Section B. Recording System
1. The riding hours will be recorded in the member’s log book.
2. To log riding: a minimum of 1 hour must be ridden to qualify.
Thereafter, every full ½ hour may be logged. Log time consists of
actual forward motion Trail riding time is to be reported in time
spent in the saddle moving, not by the mile covered. Time
counts only when actually trail riding. There is no credit given for
arena riding, showing, riding in parades etc.
3. Only the official log book may be sent in. NO facsimile will be accepted. It is advised to keep a copy for yourself.
4. Official log books must be received by the WHAM state TRP coordinator at each level of completion for each earned award.
5. Members may opt to send in their books on an annual basis.
The TRP coordinator records and tallies each member’s hours
received since 2009.
6. Members who turn in their Log books by October 15 and are
eligible for an award, will receive the award at the annual award
banquet in November.
7. If a log book becomes lost, you forfeit all recorded hours that
were entered in the book.
8. Each rider is on their honor when logging in hours.

Section C. Protests
1. A fee of $25.00 payable to WHAM must accompany any protest to
WHAM.
2. A protest must be made to the Protest Committee, which shall
consist of the show chairperson, points chairperson, show approval chairperson who shall present the protest to the board and
will see that a decision is made within thirty (30) days by the board
of directors of WHAM.
3. Protest procedures shall follow those outlined in the current HIO
rulebook.
* All logbooks submitted are entered in the trail riding program *
Chevrons will be considered upon the completion of 50, 100, 250, 500,
750 and 1,000 hours. Additional awards will be considered at the 50, 100,
250, and subsequent intervals of 250 levels. These awards are cumulative.
You may take as many years as you wish to work up to the different
award levels.
