Limited – Nash Road Facility (hereafter “Samuel”) (previously named Samuel Metal Processing) on Nash Road in Hamilton produces cut-to-order steel plate from cold and hot rolled sheet steel. Large sheets of carbon steel plate ranging in thickness from 3/16 inch to 8 inches are received and cut into specific sizes and shapes. 2.0 Toxic Substance Accounting (tonnes) Manganese CAS#: NA ‐ 09 MPO Used Created Air Disposed >10 to 100 >10 to 100 ‐ >0 to 1 ‐ >10 to 100 ‐ ‐ ‐ >10 to 100 Recycled Sewage Spills Landfill On part The substance is a component of carbon steel plate that is processed at the facility. The substance is released from the facility’s product steel, as scrap or as slag/dust that are sent off-site for recycling. Reduction Plan Objectives and Targets: The Toxic Reduction Plan guides Samuel in finding methods to reduce the percent losses of residues of manganese from the production processes. As manganese is a key component in the steel brought into the facility, its’ elimination is not a viable option. Samuel intends to reduce the releases of residues of manganese by 5 % over the next 5 to 8 years. Progress on TRA Plan: All actions put forth in the TRA plan have been completed in previous reporting years. However, training continues on a routine basis leading to scrap reduction. Training of staff allows for better utilization of all parts of the plate, resulting in scrap reduction. An annual review of Best Operating Practices occurs every year. No amendments were made to the Toxic Reduction Act Plan for Manganese. Reduction Options under Consideration for Implementation: Ongoing Best Operating Practices such as minimizing skeleton sizes for recycling and using remnants (drops) for secondary products will continue to be implemented. A “Filler Part Program” will be implemented, where applicable, to reduce scrap sent for recycling. Additional Actions and their Impact on Substance Use, Creation and Discharge: Removal of equipment lead to a reduction in production and therefore a reduction in the use of manganese of approximately 13 tonnes. Also, the amount recycled was reduced by approximately 13 tonnes. 3.0 Signed S Ce ertificatio on Statem ment As of Ju une 1, 2016, I, Alf Keddy, K certtify that I have read the reporrts on the toxic substancce reductio on plans for the toxic substancess referred tto below aand am fam miliar with theeir contentss, and to my m knowled dge the info ormation ccontained in n the reporrts is factually y accurate and the reeports com mply with tthe Toxics Reduction n Act, 2009 and Ontario Regulation n 455/09 (G General) ma ade under th hat Act.
