Botany Bay
‘Bring back the Trees’ is Botany Bay Council’s
motto, with around three million trees and
shrubs being planted in parks, reserves and
streets over the past two decades, as well as
the creation of many new parks and the
undertaking of bush regeneration projects.

There are 65 parks in the Botany Bay Local
Government Area with Sir Joseph Banks Pleasure
Gardens unquestionably being the biggest
drawcard. The gardens were styled on old
photographs and engravings of the original
zoological and botanical gardens which existed
in the early 1800’s.
A $1.2 million renovation and landscaping of the
six hectare site for the bicentennial now offers life
size animal sculptures, a running track, bike track,
walking tracks, barbecue facilities and a duck filled
lake. All parks in the area give residents a choice
of both passive and active recreation, and often
include children’s playgrounds.
