Dear Parents & Carers,
Your children kindly completed a questionnaire from the governors in school, very similar to the
questionnaire that many of you have kindly filled in.
The results of these questionnaires have been analysed by the governors and whilst most of the
replies were favourable, the issue of behaviour was a recurring theme.
As a result, the teachers and I have done several PSHE & C (Personal, social, health education
& citizenship) lessons where we discussed behaviour, what it looks like in our school, a scale of
behaviours, school rules, rewards & sanctions.

2. Yellow warning card (remains on desk as a reminder)
3. Red card – time out in another classroom, report to write explaining poor behaviour,
school rule broken and how to improve this.
4. Learning time missed would need to be made up in playtimes.
5. Interview in Mrs Hilliard’s office
6. Parents informed (3 red cards)
These rewards and sanctions are for all children.
At any time, the staff can miss out steps should the behaviour be severe. A warning would
always be given.
Excellent Work
The children would be asked by their teacher to take their work to Mrs Hilliard. A comment is
written in a special book about the work, a smiley face is written on work and, most importantly,
a gold headteachers sticker is given out.
Lunchtimes
The children were also concerned about lunchtimes.
We agreed that:
Children could sit with their friends for lunch.
Too much noise could mean being moved away friends.
School rules, rewards and sanctions would be used.
An additional sanction of time out (standing next to a Midday supervisor) could be used
before being sent in to write a report.
Golden Time
The children felt that golden time no longer worked as a treat.
It was agreed that the teacher could choose to allow individual class golden time on a Friday
afternoon should the behaviour of the whole class deserve it.
Where we go from here…
Please talk to your children about these school rules, rewards and sanctions. The pupils, School
Council and teachers will review this at the beginning of July (after 8 weeks). We will inform you
of their findings.
We would also welcome your views either through your class teacher or to me. My email
address is [email protected].
The governors are currently processing your parent questionnaires. We thank you for the time
you have taken to express your views about our school and further information will follow very
shortly.
Kind regards
Laura Hilliard
