May 202015 - Chester-Joplin

Hawk HiLights
Weekly Edition: May 20, 2015
Through a shared commitment, the mission of ChesterJoplinInverness School District is to
help all students reach their full potential and to promote learning as a lifelong process.
Staff Member of the Week This week’s staff member of the week is
Miss Teresa Tompkins. How do you put into
words what Miss Tompkins does for the staff
and students at CJI? Not only does she help
answer phones when the clerical staff is busy,
but she can be found helping cover teacher’s
classes when we are in a pinch. She is also
the “goto” spellchecker for a number of
articles. Teresa provides us all with smiles
and a ton of laughs. She remains positive in
spite of various obstacles thrown at her, and
her “cando” attitude is very catchy! Not only
does Teresa help her coworkers, but she
manages all the adult education activities for
the surrounding communities. She strives to
find new classes to offer adult community
members from sewing & jewelrymaking to
tennis & HIIT (high intensity interval training)
workouts. Teresa is also passionate about
teaching and inspiring today’s youth. You can
find Teresa challenging her students in the
classroom. She is very passionate about her
subject matter and she loves English
Literature. She also challenges the students
with various historical questions when they
Student of the Week
Sam Ewing said, “Hard work spotlights the
character of people: some turn up their
sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some
don't turn up at all.”
Anna Kaiser, a highly involved member
of our school and extended community, is a
clear choice for our Student of the Week. Anna
is the “turnup[her]sleeves” type of worker.
Anna bolsters her knowledge every day
with new lessons. Moreover, Anna is an
articulate young woman, bountiful with ideas
and often putting forth extra effort that reveals
her creativity and love for learning. She
attempts to muster her class to be more
respectful using her disarming smile and genial
mien. Anna does not flaunt her abilities, but
her unassuming character and quality work
speak of her resolute stance to appreciate her
education. As Anna continues her education, I want
to convey my belief that her steadfast
commitment to education will inspire others,
creating a reciprocal relationship of students’
ever challenging and inspiring each other to
greater depths of thought, as well as higher
pursuits of excellence. Anna embodies what it means to “be a
HAWK” in every environment she is in. Anna
travel across the east coast on their Explore
America trip. Teresa goes above and beyond
helping Explore America students raise funds
throughout the year so that they can have the
joy of experiencing many historical sights
and cities. She is also a People to People
Primary Delegation Leader serving not only
students at our school, but other students
nationwide as traveling ambassadors. Teresa is a loyal friend who
is thoughtful, caring, compassionate, generous
and the best support crier! ~Authored by: Lindsey Mansfield, Sara

participates in several sports, including
volleyball, basketball, and track. Additionally,
she has spent many hours in 4H activities,
babysitting, and being a great sister to her
siblings. Note: If this Student of the Week
commendation seemed rather prodigious in
elite words, it is to demonstrate the caliber of
Anna’s education. She probably recognizes
most of these words from her vocabulary
lessons, and she could likely give you the
meanings of these words from her retentive
memory.

Academic and Leadership All Star
Emma Earl is one of ten students awarded northcentral Montana’s top graduate. Each year the Great Falls Tribune recognizes local students based on their success in academics, involvement in extracurricular activities, and their involvement in the community. In the May 10, 2015 issue of the Great Falls Tribune, Kristen Cates wrote, “There's a common illness found in many high schools around the country this time of year. Its symptoms include inability to focus, seasonal hallucinations and academic malaise. Senioritis is a real affliction. Yet, somehow, there's a group of 10 students from northcentral Montana that appears to be immune to this common illness found in 18yearolds ready to walk across the graduation stage, and we call these 10 students the Tribune's Academic and Leadership All Stars for 2015.
Even though they've been accepted into the colleges of their choice — with honors — in the months prior, this group of students hasn't slowed down or stepped off the gas pedal. They're still playing sports, still cramming for advanced placement exams, and still running volunteer activities in their schools and communities.
After 20 years of picking the best and brightest graduating seniors, the students from northcentral Montana continue to impress and astound the Tribune's selection committees.”
Congratulations Emma!

Congratulations to the twelve 2015 Graduates from CJI Schools. Together you received 38
scholarships totaling $75,220 and one full tuition waiver renewable for 4 years. Way to go Seniors!!!
It was a soggy weekend in Great Falls on May 14, 15, and 16, but our girl's tennis athletes
persevered. Our doubles team, Haley Erickson and Madeline Woods, played at CMR the
opening day. Lauren Stewart played a match that lasted almost three hours the day before
her graduation, and in the end, came in 4th overall in singles at the state B/C tournament. Congratulation to Lauren for an awesome finish to her tennis career at CJI. We also want to
congratulate all our tennis athletes on a great season. In all, eleven athletes competed in
the regular season, seven competed at divisionals, and three went to state. Thank you for
representing CJI on the court.
