BARGAINING SUPPORT COMMITTEE ORGANIZERS

The executive committee of CUPE 3902 is looking to book-off three (3) members from 35 hours of contracted
work with the UofT over the summer term. The right of the trade union to book-off members is outlined in
the Union Leave Provisions of the Local’s collective agreements.
If you have an appointment equal to or greater than this book-off position, the Union will reimburse the
Employer for the applicable wage and benefit costs involved in reallocating all or part of your appointment to
this project.
If your appointment is for fewer hours than this position, the Union will reimburse the Employer for the
applicable wage and benefit costs and offer an honorarium equivalent to the difference in the size of your
appointment and this posted position paid at the applicable union rates.
If you cannot subdivide an appointment or are otherwise unable to be seconded from your responsibilities at the
UofT, you may opt instead for an honorarium equivalent to $39.92 plus 4% vacation pay per hour.
Qualifications
 Unit 1 member in good standing
 Previous union and/or community organizing experience preferred
 Familiarity with labour movement
Duties
 Attend meetings of the general and unit membership
 Attend regular Bargaining Support Committee meetings.
 Plan and undertake activities alongside the executive and other committees in support of the Local’s
bargaining aims
 Serve as liaison between campus groups and the Local
 Assist the campus, mobilization and departmental stewards in organising and planning union meetings and
information sessions
 Contact current and potential union members with union updates/information
 Distribute union information/literature
Members selected shall serve in office at the pleasure of the executive committee or until the end of the fall
term. These positions are renewable in the winter term at the discretion of the executive.
