News From Mrs. Rowe and Mr. Miller
It has been a busy week in the classroom as we have been hard at
work within many different units. We also had picture day this past
week. Make-up’s will take place on October 25 if your child missed
picture day or needs a retake.
We hope that you and your families have a wonderful weekend
together and we will see your child on Monday.

Reading & Writing Workshop
In reading workshop this week we started to
focus our attention on writing short summaries
about what we have read. Students have
been learning how to focus on the important
story elements and details rather than telling
every detail/event.
Math Workshop
In math we worked on adding and
subtracting decimals. We
studied estimating using
rounding and compatible
numbers.
In writing workshop we have started our
narratives unit. Students are still drafting
several narratives and reviewing old narratives
they have written during some of our free
write time. Our focus has been on adding
purposeful dialogue to our stories and
breaking the long stories up into meaningful
paragraphs.
Word Study
In word study, we have continued with our Greek
and Latin root word unit: aqua- and hydra-. We
worked with word meanings in multiple ways this
week. The test will be Friday, September 24 (a
review sheet came home today).
Social Studies
We started a unit on Geography
with a focus on longitude and
latitude this week.
