Jan 06, 1854 in Ashe Co., NC.
Notes for JESSE TOLIVER:
Jesse's Revolutionary War Pension application says that he enlisted as a private on 5 different occasions and
received a pension for his services. Frances' pension gives county where Jesse was born, page from family Bible
gives births or children; page was in Rev. War papers.

1780 , June 6; Wilkes Co., TN Moses Toliver and Hilliar Rousse posted a "bastardy bond" for a child born out of
wedlock to Jesse and Lucy Robins. Lucy died in 1787 and her daughter Elizabeth was "bound out" to Thomas
Robins til age 18 to learn to spin, read, and write.
Note: A William Toliver signed land over to Lucy's father. This deed needs to be checked to try to figure out
why and who was this William?????

Frankey Toliver received $55.00 per year as a pension beginning March 4, 1848
Jesse applied for a pension Jan. 1, 1834 and received $55. per year beginning March 1834. In 1834 he was aged
78 years and living in Ashe Co., NC. He was in Wilkes Co., NC at the date of enlistment. He had enlisted in
1777 for 5 months as a private under Capt. Lenoir, Col. Martin Armstrong, NC. In 1780 he enlisted for 2 months
as a private under Capt. Lenoir, Col. Herndon, NC.
Again he enlisted for 1 1/2 months as a private under William Lenoir, NC. And again in 1780 he enlisted for 3
months as a private under Capt. William Lenoir, Col. Campbell, NC. He enlisted in 1781 for 5 months as a
private under Capt. Lenoir, Col. Macajah Lewis, NC.
He died Feb. 7 or March 4, 1838.

In 1855 he made the trip down the Mississippi to Shreveport on a steam boat. He then traveled on foot from
Shreveport to the old Finger farm three miles west of the present location of Arlington. When the Civil War
broke out, he enlisted and fought for the South. Joe and Rachel raised an orphan child. She married John
Moreland.The History of Texas includes an article about Joseph.
They had no children, but reared an orphan girl, Anna born 1865 TX, who married John Moreland.

Enoch was a merchant, postmaster, Primitive Baptist Minister.
Enoch and Rhoda were killed Dec. 25, 1927 by her son. Cert. #16899 says Enoch died from a fractured skull.
The Zanesville Signal - Dec. 25, 1927 - Bluefield, WV - Wise Bailey, Rhoda's son from a previous marriage, was
wanted in the death of Enoch and Rhoda. He also stole $500.
Plain-Dealer - Jan. 26, 1928 - Wise Bailey hanged himself in jail in Charleston, WV. He was accused of killing
his mother and stepfather.
