Party tips
One of the key rules
behind planning a home party
is to keep it simple.
Here are just a few tips to
help you make the party
a great success.
2
TIP 1 - Length of Party
Parties for young children should never be too long. The rule of thumb
is approximately 1½ - 2 hours for younger children and 2 - 3 hours for
older children. A 2pm start time is ideal – it avoids the grumpy time of
day and is less time for the birthday child to wait, while allowing
enough time for the parent to set up.
TIP 2 - Number of Guests
Whilst it’s a nice idea to invite your child’s entire class, 30 children
can be quite a handful. 8 - 12 guests is a suitable number. Ideally invite
just enough to make the day enjoyable without making it chaotic.
TIP 3 - Party Food
These days it is wise to check with the children’s parents before the
party in regards to any food allergies. Overall stick with foods kids know
and love including party pies, sausage rolls, chips, fruit platters and
don’t forget your Aeroplane Jelly.
TIP 4 - Plan
Try to achieve as much as possible ahead of time to avoid the last
minute rush. Have a few back up plans, just in case. Good planning
is essential to ensure you have a successful and stress free day.

Still Flying High After 85 Years
Iconic Australian Brand
Aeroplane Jelly Celebrates Milestone
From humble beginnings, to over 20 million
Aeroplane Jelly packets being consumed
each year, Aeroplane Jelly remains one
of Australia’s most iconic, recognised
and trusted brands and is celebrating its
85th birthday on September 18, 2012.
Taking off in 1927, Aeroplane Jelly was
launched in New South Wales by its creator
Bert Appleroth who named the brand as
he was an avid aviation fan. Bert made
Australia’s favourite jelly crystals in his bath
tub at home and distributed them on his
tram route in Sydney. By 1934 instead of
selling door-to-door, Bert was chartering
Tiger Moths and making his first air
deliveries in New South Wales.
Bert’s jelly voyage produced a song which
is often described as Australia’s second
national anthem. The “I like Aeroplane
Jelly” jingle has filtered through the
Australian psyche and has made Aeroplane
Jelly a household must-have for decades.
Fun Aeroplane Jelly facts include:
1. The Aeroplane Jelly Jingle was an
unofficial password for Australian
Soldiers during the Vietnam War.
2. At one stage in the 1940’s the Aeroplane
Jelly Jingle was played on Sydney Radio
stations 100 times per day.
3. In 1981, Aeroplane Jelly broke the
Guinness World Records with a
35,000 litre Jelly.
4. The Aeroplane Jelly Jingle has been
translated into many different languages
including Greek, Italian, Russian and
Yugoslavian.
5. Raspberry continues to be Australia’s
favourite jelly flavour followed by
Strawberry, Port Wine, Lime and Orange.
6. 20 million Aeroplane Jelly packs being
consumed makes 10 million litres of
jelly, which is enough to fill four
Olympic sized swimming pools.
This Birthday Book is Aeroplane Jelly’s birthday gift to you,
our jelly lovers, and contains delicious jelly recipes enjoyed by
thousands of Australians throughout our 85 year history.
We hope you enjoy Bertie’s Birthday Book
and look forward to another 85 years of Jelly Joy!
