With both the US teams looking fantastic in the pool play, everyone had thought that at least one and possibly two gold medals were going to return back to the US. The men's team beat Slovenia and Slovakia handily, and also had a thrilling shootout win against the Russians. The women's team had crushed Finland and Switzerland by a total score of 12-1, but suffered a loss against the defending champion, Canada. The women's team rebounded with a win against Sweden to reach the gold medal game, but then suffered a heartbreaking loss to Canada again in overtime after losing a two-goal lead with two minutes left. The Canadians also dashed any hope of one gold medal for US Hockey, after they beat the American men's team in a thrilling 1-0 game. The US could not recover from the loss, and was blown out by the Finns 5-0 in the bronze medal game. Overall, it was a disappointing finish for two teams that were favored to be major contenders to win gold. Women's gold medal game The Warwick Place Warwick Review by Colby Shea The Warwick Place has been recently re-opened in Marblehead, Massachusetts. In 1955 the Warwick was built, but in 1999 it was shut down. The Warwick was just a theater, but when they rebuilt it in the same place, it changed. The Warwick Place now has a luxurious restaurant and theater that I enjoy going to! The restaurant is called Palmers, and it is in the same building as the theater. Palmers is elegant, and the quality of the food is great. In my opinion, Palmers is the best restaurant in Marblehead, but it is not so kid friendly. Inside the Theater The Warwick has two theaters. One of them is a called the Main Theater. It is set up like a normal theater, but has less seats. Although it is set up like a normal theater, the seats are much nicer and have movable tables connected to the seats. The seats also have a button you can press, and a waiter from Palmers will come to where you are sitting. When they come you can order food !2 MARCH 5, 2014 and drinks. This is the most unique thing about the Warwick Place. The other theater is called the Luxury Theater. The luxury theater is set up like an office because it has tables with huge comfortable office chairs. THE ROAR Photos at Stowe I have gone to a few movies at the Warwick Place, 12 Years a Slave, Her, The Heat, The Butler, and Catching Fire. Each time I went, I enjoyed my experience at the Warwick Place. Stowe Review by Abigail Walker Looking for an exciting place to spend your weekend? People shovel for hours to uncover their cars and clear out their driveways from the snow that plows put there. Shoveling piles of plowed snow has caused people to severely injure their backs. Do cars really deserve superiority over walkers and runners? The snow on the road gets put on the sidewalks, forcing children to walk in the streets. When I was driving home, there was a girl walking, and she was in the road because the sidewalk had three feet of snow on it. With the roads so dangerous because of the cars losing traction there is more of a need for sidewalks, and the plows just cover them. A possible solution could be that the city can snowblow the sidewalk after plowing streets. The city could make places where the plows can dump the snow. This problem affects everyone in New England; there is no fighting that. Snowy Streets! !3 MARCH 5, 2014 The Boston Globe Field Trip Overview by Teddy Mayle THE ROAR Photos at the Globe On February 20, the eighth grade visited "The Boston Globe" facility in Boston, Massachusetts. The students started with an interactive trivia game created by the tour guide. They were then taken on a tour throughout the facility. They visited the place where the paper is inked, processed, and, one of the favorite parts of the trip, transported by robots. The students then sat in at an entertaining editorial meeting with the heads of the different departments of the newspaper. All of the students observed in their history class that most of the topics that were discussed in the meeting, were the headlines in the next day's paper. Next, a reporter for The Globe, Matt Carroll, talked to the students about his job as a reporter and answered any questions that were aroused. Matt Carroll is known for his work with statistics and data. He was also involved with the team of reporters that were the basis for uncovering the Catholic priest sexual abuse scandal, which won a Pulitzer Prize for its outstanding work. They were then met by Sarah Rodman, an entertainment reporter who has met almost every celebrity imaginable. For some people, she was the highlight of the trip, answering almost every question with: "Yes, I have met that person before" and then gave a fun story about them. Overall, the students had a fun time learning about "The Boston Globe," and what it is like to have a reporting job. Crazy Candy Lady Review by Sophia Maselek The Crazy Candy Lady is a candy store located at 123 Pleasant Street, Marblehead, MA. It is a beautiful store and was established in 2013. This little store has so much to offer. First, anyone can walk in and place a reservation for a birthday party, which are well planned and very delicious. There is plenty of room for children to play and eat candy. The owners of the candy shop also offer activities for the children at the parties. The store also offers plenty of candy for people who have allergies, which is very convenient. Also, all of the candy is extremely well-priced, so young teens can go in and buy a bag of candy for a low price. If you are looking for a sweet gift for someone, then a gift basket from the Crazy Candy Lady is an excellent option! It is a combination of any candy you desire, and then wrapped up and tied with a bow. My experience at the Crazy Candy Lady was amazing. I purchased a variety of candies, from rich chocolate to sour gummy worms. All of !4 MARCH 5, 2014 the candy was great; it tasted fresh, and nothing was stale. I would definitely recommend the Crazy Candy Lady to anyone who is craving something sweet! THE ROAR Crazy Candy Lady logo Dark Chocolate Truffles By Connor Tidd For this food review, I decided to make dark chocolate truffles. This recipe requires very few ingredients but can be difficult to create. First, chop the bittersweet chocolate into small pieces. Then, bring the heavy whipping cream to a simmer in a small saucepan. Stir until completely melted and smooth. Pour the chocolate into a small bowl and refrigerate until it has a high viscosity. Take the chocolate and put it in a cake decorating bag. Squeeze the chocolate out in small balls on a tray. When the truffles harden, it is time to put the cocoa on. Lather the truffles in the melted milk chocolate, and one by one, put into a small bowl with the cocoa powder in it. Each time you put a truffle in, shake the bowl to cover the truffle in cocoa. Take the truffles out and keep refrigerated. Enjoy your dark chocolate truffles! Ingredients: -8 oz.Ghirardelli 60% semisweet bar -4 oz. Ghirardelli Milk chocolate bar -1/3 cup Ghirardelli unsweetened cocoa -1/3 cup heavy whipping cream -6 Tbsp. Unsalted butter cut into pieces. Varsity Basketball Recap By Colby Shea Tower's basketball season has come to an end, and the girls and boys varsity basketball teams improved a lot over the season. The girls varsity basketball team has switched directions on their losing record. In the first half of the season, they had many losses at away games, but, in the second half of the season, at the home games, they started to win. They won the last five games against Landmark, Manchester, Waring, Pike, and Brookwood. They lost their last game against Shore, who remained undefeated. The boys varsity basketball team did great, too! They beat Waring and Landmark by a lot. Unfortunately, the team lost to Brookwood and Shore twice. Overall, the varsity basketball teams had a successful season. !5 MARCH 5, 2014 THE ROAR Word Search: Trivia Question: How many years has the Boston Marathon been run? !6 117 years MARCH 5, 2014 Crossword Puzzle: THE ROAR Across: 1.
