IPG Delhi Conference, Pre- and Post

DESTINATION INDIA
INDIA – the very name conjures images of vibrant colours, mysticism, royalty; an amalgam of religions, a kaleidoscope of
art and culture, all of which find expression in the beautiful temples, sculptures and monuments. India is undoubtedly one
of the most diverse nations in the world. It is a land of credible paradoxes and yet underlying the contrasts, there are
patterns of continuity, an indefinable essence that is quintessentially Indian. Much of India’s fascination perhaps lies in
the fact that it is both a young nation and an ancient country rolled into one where past and present co-exist in a beautiful
mosaic.
India, it is often said, is not a country but a continent. From north to south and east to west, the people are different, the
languages are different, and the country is different. There are few countries on earth with the enormous variety that
India has to offer. Travelling through the country is not just a journey but also an experience of a lifetime. The rich tapestry
that is India cannot be captured in a single word or expression. At times unbelievable, at times overwhelming and always
incredible!
India is a land of romance and dreams, of splendour and extravagance, of forts and palaces, beaches and jungles, a
kaleidoscope of vibrant colours and rituals. To explore India is to discover unending secrets to the mystery of life, to enjoy
India is to celebrate the very fact of living.
CIMGlobal invites you to participate in an extraordinary experience recreating the joy of celebrating life and exploring the
wonders of Incredible India!

Cochin: A commercial city in the state of Kerala, has one of the best natural harbours in the country. It is set
amidst lagoons and backwaters with aromatic backdrop of swaying coconut palms. Kochi, a commercial capital city
of the state where land and water share extraordinary kinship. This land which is believed to have sprung forth from
the sea womb continues to bask in the tender life giving care of the waters that lap gently on its coast, cascade,
down its hills and valleys and collect into exotic backwaters and lagoons.
Alleppey, alternately known as Alappuzha: is one of the exotic backwater destinations in Kerala. It is a pleasant
easygoing market town built on canals and surrounded by coconut trees. Caressed by the Arabian Sea and interlocked
by a number of canals and bridges, this stunningly gorgeous “Venice of the East” has more than the boat races,
houseboats, beaches, marine products and the coir industry; Alappuzha is also home to diverse animal and bird life
and is dotted with temples, highly revered not only in the state but also throughout India. Also referred to as the rice
bowl of Kerala, Alappuzha was separated from the former districts of Kottayam and Quilon. It is bounded by Kochi and
Kanayannur taluks on its north; Vaikom, Kottayam, Changanassery Thiruvalla, Kozhencherry and Adoor taluks on its
east; Kannathur and Karunagappally taluks on its south and the exotic Lakshadweep and the Arabian Sea on its west.
Kumarakom: Located 16 km away from Kottayam town is an enchanting backwater destination on the picturesque
Vembanad Lake. The village of Kumarakom is a cluster of little islands that have been converted into a number of
tourist resorts, and is part of the Kuttanad region. Kumarakom is an unbelievably beautiful paradise. The blue
backwaters and the surface of Vembanad Lake reflect the azure sky. The mazing shades of green of the vegetation
that include mangroves, coconut palms, and paddy fields cover the verdant countryside. Channels and waterways
wind their way through this green paradise. Water lilies and lotuses bloom in the water and birds from the bird
sanctuary on Vembanad Lake call as they fly across the clear tropical sky. Kumarakom is an idyllic holiday destination.
Day 1: Delhi – Cochin
Transfer to the airport to board flight for Cochin.
Arrive in Cochin where you will be received by a CIMGlobal representative who will further assist you with your

Overnight in Cochin.
Day 2: Cochin – Alleppey

After breakfast, visit Cochin City. You will first proceed to Mattancherry,
where you will visit the oldest Jewish Synagogue in India (closed on Friday
and Saturday), built in 1568; it was destroyed by the Portuguese and rebuilt
by the Dutch a century later. In 1776, a wealthy Dutch Jewish trader, Ezekiel
Rahabi, added a clock tower and exquisite Chinese blue and white porcelain
floor tiles, each hand painted in a different design. Its fascinating interior
includes 19th century Belgian chandeliers, a ladies gallery and an elegant
brass pulpit. The Dutch Palace (closed on Friday) at Mattancherry was
built in 1555. Its coronation hall and murals at Ramayana are noteworthy
features.
From there, you will visit the Chinese fishing nets. The cantilevered fishing
nets line the entrance to the harbor mouth. Chinese traders are believed
tohave originally introduced them in the 14th century although, today parts
of the nets are known by Portuguese names. From the Chinese fishing nets
you will visit St. Francis Church [closed on Sunday during Mass], originally
named after Santo Antonio and dedicated to him as the Patron Saint of
Portugal, St. Francis Church is the first church to have been in the new
European influenced tradition. Originally a wooden building was replaced by
the present stone building. Vasco De Gamma died on the site in 1524 and
was originally buried in the cemetery.
14 years later his body was removed to Portugal. The church was renamed
St. Francis in 1663.
Afternoon drive to Alleppey (63 km/ 1.5 hours approx.)
Arrive in Alleppy and check into a houseboat for an overnight cruise on the backwaters. Dinner will be served on
board the houseboat.
Backwaters — a unique web of lakes, lagoons, canals and rivers— a r e an
integral part of Kerala’s tourism scenario. Inaccessible to tourists for a long
time, this hidden treasure has now become a reality to the tourists, thanks
to the “Kettuvallams”—the houseboats of Kerala. In Malyalam, the word
“kettuvallam” means a sewn or stitched canoe. Traditionally they were built
of planks sewn together with coir cordage, threaded through with a needle
carved from a palm frond. The seams, caulked with coir plugs soaked in
sardine or cashew oil made the boats waterproof.
The traditional houseboat of Kerala is one of the most enduring images
of the backwaters – its natural, cocoon-like profile complementing the surrounding countryside.
Dinner and overnight in houseboat.
Day 3: Alleppey - Kumarakom
Breakfast on board.
Disembark from boat and transfer to Kumarakom hotel.

of fresh water in Kerala, and offers a coherent introduction to the backwaters
offering a fascinating insight into the past.

Tour duration: 12 nights/ 13 days
Day 1: Delhi – Mandawa
Today, we drive to Mandawa, Mandawa in the heart of the semiarid Shekhawati region. Shekhawati owes its name to Rao Shekha
who ruled this area in the 14th century. The Fort of Mandawa
was built in the year 1755 by Thakur Nawal Singh, the founder of
the town. These were the times when Mandawa was settled and
fortified by the rich and dominant Silk Route merchants of the
region, who constructed many havelis (mansions), chhatris
(cenotaphs), and temples and baolis (step-wells) with ornate
frescoes adorning their walls and now aptly given the epithet
Open-Air Gallery. With the migration of these merchant families,
their old settlements remained in total obscurity with no one to
look after them. Mandawa still retains
the charm and aura of a bygone era and coming here is like stepping into a different
world.
Overnight hotel – Mandawa
Day 2: Mandawa – Bikaner (160 km/ 4 hours approx.)
Half-Day Tour
Today we explore the Mandawa Fort, located in the very heart of Mandawa, a classic example of the famed Rajput
style of architecture. It houses many beautiful paintings and frescoes that dazzle the eyes and now been converted
into a heritage hotel. Gulab Rai Haveli built in the year 1870 that has some of the best murals in Shekhawati on both
the exterior and interior walls with elephants and camels on its façade. Goenka Double Haveli, built in the year 1890,
with monumental frescoes of elephants and horses decorating its façade. Bansidhar Newatia Haveli built in the year
1921 combines traditional frescoes of horses and elephants with those depicting a young boy using a phone plus
opulent touring cars and the Wright Brothers' plane. If time permits, we may visit more Havelis of the region and
observe the colourful village life in Rajasthan.
Later we drive to the princely state of Bikaner, founded by Rao Bikaji (1465-1504 AD) in the year 1488 AD. He was a
Rajput prince, descendent of the founder of neighboring Jodhpur. It lies in the northwestern part of Rajasthan and has
a stark beauty of the desert landscape with widespread sand dunes and thorny shrubs growing around. It is a royal city
surrounded by a mammoth fortification wall, more than 5 km in circumference and about 5 to 9m high. Fort, Palaces
and people with colourful traditional costumes are the chief attractions of the city. The Camel Breeding Farm in Bikaner
is only one of its kinds in the whole Asia and so is the illustrious Camel Festival.
Overnight hotel – Bikaner.
Day 3: Bikaner – Jaisalmer (325 km/ 7 hours)
Half-Day Tour
Today in Bikaner we visit Junagarh Fort, built in the year 1593 AD by
Raja Rai Singh (1571-1612 AD), the 6th ruler of Bikaner. The Fort is a
formidable structure and largely remained unconquered during its
eventful history. It houses number of beautiful Palaces, Temples and
Pavilions, which are richly decorated The beautifully maintained rooms
of Anup Mahal now display the treasures of the Royal family. The Fort
Museum has an extensive collection of illuminated manuscripts,
jewellery, jars, carpets, weapons, treaties, decorations and Farmans
(King's Orders).
Later we drive to Jaisalmer, founded in the year 1156 by Bhatti Rajput
ruler Rawal Jaisal. Often described as Golden City and rising from
the
heart of the Thar Desert like a golden mirage the commanding Fort etched in yellow sandstone, dominates the
amber-hued city with its entire awesome splendor. Because of its strategic location it was an important ancient trading
centre and camel caravans laden with precious spices and silk crossed the territory en -route India, Sindh, Arabia and
Europe. The merchants of the 19th century built Havelis (Mansions) that are exquisitely carved from golden -yellow
sandstone and are still in a beautiful condition. The life within the Fortified town conjures up images of medieval
majesty visible in its narrow lanes strewn with magnificent palace, havelis, temples, and of course skilled artisans and
ubiquitous camels.
Overnight hotel – Jaisalmer
Day 4: Jaisalmer
Full-Day Tour

and Vishnu. These structures were built by three successive Pallava Kings, between 630 A.D and 728 A.D, who

mostly rock –cut and monolithic, constitute the early stages of Dravidian architecture, wherein Buddhist elements of

men, beasts, and birds and in fact can be said to represent creation itself. Next we visit Rathas, monolithic temples
fashioned as chariots. They remain an architectural mystery as each is apparently a faithful reproduction of a
structure built of wood. In fact, even the grain of the timber beams and rafters has been simulated in stone. Of the
eight Rathas, five have been named for the Pandava brothers, the heroes of the epic Mahabharata.
