Students read the quiz and answer the questions. This can be done individually, in pairs, groups or with the entire class. 1. Introducing yourself and others. Countries and languages. After students have completed the table you can ask them to choose a country and imagine that they actually live there. They then write two or three sentences about "their" country without mentioning its name. Next, students read out their sentences while their partners guess the country and language. This can be done in pairs, groups or with the entire class. With weaker groups you can put some ideas on the board, e.g. In my country people eat _______ . A lot of tourists who come here visit ________. Alternatively (or if you can't bear your students' sluggishness, lack of creativity and whining at the fact that they have to write whole sentences ☺)) photocopy, cut up and distribute the slips on the next page (one set per pair, face down) and instruct your students to read out the sentences to each other. Gosia: New York is sometimes called a "melting pot". This is because all the cultures and nationalities mix in one place here. There are more than 8 million people living in New York and they come from all over the world. Juan is one of the 8,000 Spanish people living in the city. Alva's mother comes from France and there are more than 50,000 French people living in New York city. Martin's parents are one of the 360,000 Chinese nationals in New York. There are also almost 700,000 Italian people living in New York and Mirko is one of them. Let's meet them all. Juan: My name is Juan Matossian Alva: My name is Alva French. Martin: My name is Martin.
