LOS ANGELES DODGERS (11-19-3) vs. Single-A Rancho Cucamonga
Thursday, March 28, 2013 – 6:05 p.m. | The Epicenter
RHP Stephen Fife (2-0, 3.45) vs. LHP Chris Reed
Spring Game 34 | Road Game 17
TV: KCAL | Radio: KLAC
HOME SWEET HOME: The club returned to Southern California today and will send a split squad of Dodgers to face Single-A Rancho Cucamonga (6:05 p.m. at
The Epicenter) and the opening game of the Freeway Series against the Angels (7:05 p.m. at Angel Stadium) before playing at Dodger Stadium tomorrow
night at 7:10 p.m. The club finished its 33-game slate in Arizona and has four exhibition games remaining before Opening Day on Monday, which is just four
days away!
10,557 watched the Dodgers wrap up their home slate at Camelback Ranch on Tuesday, finishing with an attendance mark of 133,460 in 17 home
dates (average 7,851, including the Mexico exhibition). That is the Dodgers’ second-highest home attendance mark in team history behind only the
136,944 that the club drew in 15 home dates in 2009 (average 9,130), which also included a World Baseball Classic exhibition. Los Angeles also
established a single-game Cactus League attendance mark with a sellout of 13,721 on Saturday night against the White Sox, giving the club the top
three highest attended games in league history.
LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu will be making the start in Anaheim while RHP Stephen Fife will take to the hill in Rancho Cucamonga.
Managing the Dodgers today in Rancho Cucamonga is Hall of Fame Manager Tommy Lasorda, who won two world championships for the Dodgers
in 1981 and 1988 and compiled a 1,599-1,439 record in his 21 years with Los Angeles. To honor the Hall of Famer, the Quakes dedicated their
current home clubhouse to Lasorda and it will now be called the Tommy Lasorda Clubhouse.
FINAL TUNEUP: In yesterday’s 10-7 loss to Seattle, LHP Clayton Kershaw made his final start of Spring Training before making his third consecutive Opening
Day start, suffering the defeat after allowing three runs on five hits in 3.0 innings. Offensively, minor leaguer C.J. Retherford was a perfect 2-for-2 with two
RBI at the plate while minor leaguer Rafael Ynoa scored two runs to add to his two hits.
Kershaw finished Cactus League play with a 2-3 record and a 4.18 ERA (13 ER/28.0 IP) and 30 strikeouts, which currently ranks third among National
League hurlers.
Following Kershaw for the opening series against the Giants will be LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu (April 2) and RHP Josh Beckett (April 3).
KING OF THE HILL: Toeing the rubber tonight in Anaheim is LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu, who will be making his sixth start (seventh appearance) of the spring. The leftth
hander has posted a 3.86 ERA (10 ER/23.1 IP) and has struck out 23 (6 , NL) against eight walks. In his last start against the White Sox on March 23, Ryu
tossed 7.0 innings of two-run ball while striking out five White Sox.
Media availability with Dodger left-handed pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu will be held tomorrow in the Dodger Public Relations department’s new media
room located adjacent to the Dodger clubhouse at 5:40 p.m.
Making the start in Rancho Cucamonga is RHP Stephen Fife, who has posted a 3.45 ERA (6 ER/15.2) in two starts (four games) for the Dodgers in
spring. Fife picked up the win in his last start on March 21, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits in 6.0 frames.
GO METRO: For the fourth consecutive year, LA Metro will offer the Dodger Stadium Express bus service, but with an additional perk for 2013. For the first
time, the Dodger Stadium Express bus service will include a dedicated bus lane on Sunset Boulevard from Union Station to Elysian Park Avenue. Dodger game
day tickets will be honored as payment to ride the bus service and the shuttle will operate 90 minutes before the game and 45 minutes after the game
starting Friday. Regular season service starts on Opening Day, Monday, April 1.
A WHOLE NEW BLUE: Tomorrow, Dodger President and CEO Stan Kasten and Dodger Senior Vice President of Planning and Development Janet Marie Smith
will be available to discuss the 2013 enhancements made to Dodger Stadium. Media interested in attending must contact the Dodgers’ Public Relations
Department by calling (323) 224-1301. All attendees must park in Lot P.
#AWHOLENEWBLUE: The Dodgers are giving one lucky fan the opportunity to win an all-expenses paid trip to New York City on April 23-24 while the Dodgers
are in town. The winner will get a VIP experience, including a visit to the MLB FanCave, exclusive access during a Dodgers game at Citi Field and more. For a
chance to win, post a photo on Instagram using #AWholeNewBlue that shows why you are the ultimate Dodgers fan. Be sure to follow @Dodgers &
@MLBFanCave on Instagram for behind the scenes photos all season long.
DAY IN DODGER HISTORY: March 28, 1970 - An exhibition game with stars from various Major League teams is staged at Dodger Stadium in honor of Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. The "East-West Classic" features former Yankees great Joe DiMaggio as manager of the East, and former catcher Roy Campanella pilots
the West squad. Jim "Mudcat" Grant performed the National Anthem. The game drew 31,694 fans and proceeds went to Dr. King's Southern Christian
Leadership Conference and a memorial center planned in Atlanta.
