Decoration • Thedecorationofthegoldboxesiscloselyrelatedtothegolddiscsattachedtothe GlennisheenGorget. • Thecentreofeachdischasaraisedcircularbosssurroundedbyconcentriccirclemotifs followedbyasunburstofradiatinglinesframingtheinnercircleofeachdisc/lid. Technique • Thespoolsandcylindricalsidepiecesweremadefromahammeredsheetofgold. • Raiseddecorationwascreatedbyrepoussé. • Concentriccircleswerecreatedbyincisiononthesurfaceofthegold. Function • EthnographicalcomparisonsofsimilarobjectsfoundinanumberofculturesinAfrica, AsiaandSouthAmericasuggeststhatthesewerecreatedaspairofdramaticear ornamentstobeworninthestretchedearlobe. • Theseobjectswerepossiblywornforceremonialorritualpurpose.
