The Gingerbread Man
Once upon a time there was a little old man and a little old woman who were
bakers. One morning the little old woman made some gingerbread. She cut out the
shape of a gingerbread man and laid him carefully onto the tray. After that she
put the tray into the oven to cook.
When the gingerbread was cooked, the little old woman opened the oven
door and out jumped the gingerbread man. He ran through the kitchen and out the
door. “Come back!” called the little old woman, “I want to eat you!” To which the
gingerbread man replied, “ Run! Run! As fast as you can! You can’t catch me, I’m the
gingerbread man!”
He ran into the garden chased by the little old woman. The Little Old Man
saw the gingerbread man and called, “Come back! I want to eat you!” To which the
gingerbread man replied, “ Run! Run! As fast as you can! You can’t catch me, I’m the
gingerbread man!”
He ran out the gate chased by the little old woman and the little old man.
The cat saw the gingerbread man and called, “Come back! I want to eat you!” To
which the gingerbread man replied, “ Run! Run! As fast as you can! You can’t catch
me, I’m the gingerbread man!”
He ran past the field chased by the little old woman, the little old man and
the cat. The cow saw the gingerbread man and called, “Come back! I want to eat
you!” To which the gingerbread man replied, “ Run! Run! As fast as you can! You
can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man!”
He ran down to the river chased by the little old woman, the little old man,
the cat and the cow and bumped into a fox. “Where are you going in such a rush?”
asked the fox. “I am running away from a little old woman, a little old man, a cat
and a cow, who want to eat me!” “Jump on my back and I’ll help you across the
river,” said the fox. So the gingerbread man jumped on the fox’s back and the fox
began to swim across the river.
The water got deeper and deeper. “Why don’t you jump on my head so you
don’t get wet?” suggested the fox, so the gingerbread man jumped on the fox’s
head and the fox swam on.
The water got deeper and deeper. “Why don’t you jump on my nose so you
don’t get wet?” suggested the fox, so the gingerbread man jumped on the fox’s
nose. The fox threw back his head and SNAP! He gobbled the gingerbread man up
in one bite. And all that was left was crumbs! The end.
