Any application in which an infrastructure failure
could result in serious damage or life-threatening
situations may be considered mission critical.
Mission critical applications are not limited to
transport, traffic monitoring, oil & gas, Smart
Grids, electrical substations, or wind turbines,
but might also include IP video surveillance and
security in cities or on campuses.
Network infrastructure in these applications
must operate under the harshest conditions.
Performance can be affected by, for example,
extreme temperatures, chemicals, ingress,

to be centrally managed from remote offices. LANactive
Industry solution allows automation of processes required
in networks spanning hundreds of kilometres, reducing

possible to use IT resources and staff in the most efficient

Each iSwitch can provide diagnostic data regarding
temperature, power level, port usage, copper cables,
PoE, SFP status and much more and alerts can be

Nexans memory cards offer automatic redundant
storage of the complete configuration and firmware for
industrial switches. It has unique, fixed MAC address.
In case of switch replacement, the SD card needs to
be removed from one switch and installed in a new
one. When inserted, the card’s unique MAC address,
configuration and firmware are applied to the new
switch. No changes in the network policy or pre-setup
works are required, as the system will see the same
switch as it did before.

Nexans compact managed GigaSwitch V3 IND
family is designed to provide additional flexibility
in network design for many mission critical applications. The switches have operating temperature
ranges between -25 and +65 °C. Together with
the robust housing, the optional memory card and
the high MTBF value, Nexans industrial switches
are highly reliable.
Full gigabit GigaSwitch V3 IND family has 4x
RJ45 user ports and 2 uplink ports in different
combinations: 2x SFP or 1x RJ45 and 1x SFP
ports. Thanks to PoE+ functionalities different devices can be powered through the same network
according to IEEE 802.3at.
The very compact design of GigaSwitch V3 IND
allows different ways of installations: a snap-in
installation (no tools needed) in standard 45mm
cable ducts, frames, floor boxes or with mounting
kits on walls, under the ceiling or on DIN-rails.
The preinstalled free programmable functional
input contacts with alarm function allow fast and
simple integration of additional simple devices,
like dry contacts, directly in the field.

to the design, the wide-range inputs and the
global approvals, the iPowerSupply is well suited
for use in installations around the globe. The
iPowerSupplies comply with high requirements for
EMC and environmental conditions which allows
its operation in very harsh environments.
The iPowerSupply is not only able to supply active
systems, such as switches, with power, but also
other Power over Ethernet enabled devices at
the same time. Moreover a parallel connection
of iPowerSupplies can be used to increase the
power and realise redundancy. The reliability and

Nexans SFP transceivers support digital optical
monitoring functions according to the standard
SFF-8472 and multisource agreement. These features give the users the ability to monitor real-time
parameters of the SFP module. Nexans switch
management allows to define “Threshold Values”
for Laser Bias Current, Output Power and Input
Power for each individual SFP interface. By using
these functionalities as an early warning system it
is possible to increase significantly network availability. The Nexans active systems with SFP slots
could use the monitoring and diagnostics capability to calculate attenuation of fibre link.
Nexans SFP transceivers are compliant with SFP
MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) and SFF-8472. All
modules satisfy Class I Laser Safety requirements
in accordance with the international IEC-825
standard.

Nexans device manager NEXMAN provides an
easy, intuitive and comfortable solution for configuration, management and supervision of Nexans
switches. Both Nexans industrial and FTTO switches can be connected to Nexans device manager.
Thanks to the activation of optional parameters
during set-up of Nexans device manager, it can
be easily integrated into a central management
system (i.e. SNMPc, HP-BTO/Openview…). In
this case the Device List will be bypassed and the
Device-Editor will be started directly.
Through the automatic discovery feature at layer
2, all switches part of the same network segment,
or VLAN as the management PC will be found.
Alternatively, a layer 3 automatic discovery via a
router can be performed.
Through a master configuration high number of
switches can be configured at once. The master
configu­ration can be saved for each depart­ment,
in case they require different settings.

Memory cards for switches
Nexans memory cards are redundant encrypted storage
(AES256) for industrial and FTTO switches which always
stores its complete and most actual configuration and firmware automatically. There are different formats: SD and micro
SD for industrial and V3 IND switches respectively.
To make network maintenance processes easier, Nexans
memory cards have unique MAC address fixed on it. Switch
replaces its own MAC address with the one read from
memory card. In case of a switch replacement the SD card
needs to be removed from one switch and installed into the
new one. The MAC-address, configuration and firmware
will be taken on by the new switch from this SD-card. So no
changes in the network policy or pre-setup works need to be
made as the system will see the same switch as before.

Console configuration cables
The V.24 console port on Nexans switches allows you to
configure the switch on site and/or to retrieve its status without
an Ethernet network connection. Configuration via the V.24
console port provides the same functionality as configuration
via Telnet or SSH.
Today notebooks frequently do not have an integrated serial
V.24 interface (DSUB-9). Nexans has tested the installation
and compatibility of different USB to Serial converters and
recommends the “Digitus DA-70156 USB to Serial Converter
USB 2.0”. This converter has proven to be very good in our
tests and showed optimal performance.

Contracts for switches: the “Getting Started
Support Contract” or the “Engage Support
