Using the section of the play that you have been assigned, complete each of the activities below. Your final project will consist of two parts. Part I (this will be turned in first) Create a scrapbook that contains visual representations and written details that explain and describe the following aspects of the play: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Modernize your portion of the play. Create “tweets” from each main character and a summary “tweet” from Mr. Shakespeare for each scene. (10 points) Choose five (5) literary terms from the list below. Give an example for each one. This must be typed and the effect it has on the play . (10 points) Direct characterization indirect characterization simile Metaphor blank verse couplet situational irony dramatic irony verbal irony tragic flaw monologue soliloquy foreshadowing alliteration allusion What is the setting of your section? Design a stage design that represents the setting, tone, and mood of this section. (10 pts) A) Create a character sketch for one of the characters in your section labeling at least 5 symbols. (5 points) **OR** B) Choose one (1) character and explain what characterization techniques Shakespeare uses to describe him or her. Be sure to give specific examples (quotes) to defend your choice. This must be typed. (5 pts) A) Choose one of the themes of Macbeth. Type the theme, what it means, and an explanation of what happens in your section that contributes to that theme. (10 points) **OR** B) Describe events and/or dialogue in your section of the play that reflects the aspects of a tragedy or Macbeth as a tragic hero. Be sure to give specific evidence (quotes) to defend your choice. This must be typed. (10 points) A) Create at least three usable props from this section of the play. (10 points) **OR** B) Choose 2 symbols from your section. Provide depictions and a typed explanation of them. Answer for each: What is the symbol? What does it represent? (10 points) Create a visual front page of your scrapbook that represents the overall content of your section. Utilize the talents of your group! You might choose a playbill cover, a historical representation of the time period of the play, or something that represents Shakespeare himself. DO NOT just find a picture of Mr. Shakespeare and glue it on a piece of paper. BE CREATIVE! Include a graphic, a title and the names of each member of your group. (5 pts) Part II The second part of your project will be of your choice. (Total: 15 points) A. Create a “32-second” recap of your assigned section of the play and perform it as quickly as possible. The recap must have at least 20 quotes used. (12 points) You do not have to memorize your lines! Use index cards or write your lines on a prop (shield, sword, dagger, tree branch, whatever is appropriate to your scene). You must provide at least three (3) props to help create a flair of drama to your recap. (3 points) **OR** B. You may write a song in any music genre that epitomizes the content of the play, its characters, themes, settings, symbols, and language. Your song must be at least 50 lines long and contain at least three verses and a chorus. This must be typed. (12 points) You may choose an existing song for the melody or write your own music. You do not have to sing the song, but you do have to read it aloud in front of the class, and each member of the group must read a portion. (3 points) **OR** C. Create a soliloquy for a lesser known character. It must be at least 20 lines long and have a consistent meter and at least two couplets. It must show the characters feelings in the scene, motivations for actions, and thoughts on Macbeth. (12 points) You do have to read it aloud in front of the class, and each member of the group must read a portion. (3 points) D. Student proposed idea with prior teacher approval. (15 points) This project is worth 75 points Part 1 turned in on February 28 (A Day)/February 29 (B Day) Part 2 performed on March 1 (A Day)/ March 2 (B Day) NOTE: Each member of the group will receive the same number of points for the completed project. Work together as a group to determine how to divide the tasks evenly and fairly. Volunteer to take on parts of the project that you can do well; if you are not an artist, don’t agree to draw any pictures! Do not wait until the last minute to put the whole project together and/or practice your presentation. Use class time to divide the work, and then complete your individual parts as homework. Save class time to put the scrapbook together and practice your performance! I Love Shakespeare Project Rubric Name__________________________ Part I. Scrapbook Part II. Performance
