Printmaking Studio.
Hot off the press, student works have been
completed in our new Printmaking Studio.
Year 8 students have successfully completed their drypoint engravings. Students
made a monogrammed print, based on
their initials. The new press is up and running and some exceptionally fine work has
been created by this industrious class. The
task is called "INKED UP".
The purpose of the print is a Bookplate.
Watch out at BookFace for our mini exhibition!

TACKING POINT PUBLIC SCHOOL SPEECHES
Stage 3 winners
Last week I had the delightful honour of adjudicating the Multi-cultural public speaking competition at Tacking Point Primary School. Students from years 3 to 6 shared
their views on multiculturalism, choosing from a variety of set topics such as Refugees, What constitutes being an Australian, Respect and When does a migrant become an Australian? . The chance to learn about the family histories shared by some
students through topics such as Growing up together and Every family has a story
was greatly appreciated. Having listened to the amazing talents of these students, I
am looking forward to the opportunity to teach them when they start high school.

FUTSAL
Over 3 days (18th – 20th May), Westport Campus competed in the 2015 Hastings School
Futsal Titles. Westport entered seven teams
(13 boys, 14 boys, 15 boys, 19 boys, 15 girls,
16 girls, 19 girls). We had three teams that
qualified through to the next competition. We
also have some students who have been selected into representative teams (to be announced shortly).
13 Boys – RUNNER-UP
Team: Travis Chandley-Pascoe, Edward Smith,
Bailey Spokes, Bailey Carfi and Joshua
Schofield. The boys won their first two games
easily with a combined total of 23 goals. Their
third game was a well fought draw with a win
coming in their final pool game. The boys finished top of the pool and came up against
Port Campus in the semi-final. The boys were
once again successful moving onto the final
against St Columba. Unfortunately, after five
games, the boys were completely spent and
could not keep up with St Columba in the final. All five boys played with a high level of
sportsmanship. Games were as follows:
Game 1: Win 11 – 0 vs Port Campus
Game 2: Win 12 – 1 vs St Columba (green)
Game 3: Draw 1 – 1 vs St Columba (white)
Game 4: Win 5 – 4 vs Camden Haven High
Semi-Final: Win 4 – 1 vs Port Campus
Final: Loss: 3 – 0 vs St Columba (white)
14 Boys
Team: Brock Larance, Joshua Witherspoon,
Joel McManus, Coen Wright, Billy Antram,
Brendon Tilston, Jason Onley. The boys unfortunately started their campaign poorly with
three losses and a draw. The boys then rallied
to win their final game ensuring them a spot
in the top four on goal difference. In the semifinal, the boys put in a gallant effort with
them being in the game right up to the last
few minutes when the opposition scored a
couple
of goals in quick succession. Overall, the boys
played well over the day enjoying the challenge
set from the opposition teams. Well done boys.
Game 1: Loss 4 – 2 vs Port Campus
Game 2: Loss 5 – 0 vs St Columba
Game 3: Loss 4 – 3 vs Camden Haven High
Game 4: Draw 2 – 2 vs Wauchope
Game 5: Win 7 – 2 vs Heritage
Semi-Final: Loss 6 – 1 vs Port Campus
15 Boys
Team: Brayden Kruger, Brayden Bink, Brayden
Witte, Jayden Carlson, Max Smith, Tom Preen,
Mitchell Stevenson. The boys had a tough first
game going down by a few goals. In their second
game, they had a hard fought draw and in their
final pool game, they had a comfortable win finishing second in their pool. In the semi-final, the
boys put in a tremendous effort in defeat. Well
done boys.
Game 1: Loss 6 – 2 vs St Columba
Game 2: Draw 2 – 2 vs Port Campus
Game 3: Win 5 – 2 vs Camden Haven
Semi-Final: Loss 6 – 1 vs Camden Haven
19 Boys
Team: Sam Hutchison, Brendon McRae, Steven
Hughes, Moby Preen, Lachlan McGrath, Bailey
Chandley-Pascoe. The boys played five games
with enthusiasm and enjoyment even though
they were not able to notch up a win. Results
were as follows:
Game 1: Loss 4 – 0 vs Wauchope
Game 2: Loss 5 – 1 vs Taree
Game 3: Loss 5 – 3 vs St Columba (white)
Game 4: Loss 10 – 1 vs St Columba (red)
Game 5: Loss 3 – 1 vs Camden Haven
15 Girls
Team: Nonie Bishop, Grace Larance, Jennifer
Bobongie, Sharna Elford, Bree Dorrington, Jess
Clarke, Shae Cradock. The girls who have never
played together before had a great day competing to the best of their ability over six games.
Nonie and Jess led the team putting constant
pressure on the opposition’s goal keeper. They
displayed enthusiasm and sportsmanship even
though they did not register a win. Well done
girls.

Game 1: Loss 5 – 0 vs Westport (red)
Game 2: Loss 4 – 1 vs St Columba (red)
Game 3: Loss 4 – 1 vs Wauchope
Game 4: Loss 4 – 0 vs Camden Haven
Game 5: Loss 4 – 0 vs St Columba (white)
Game 6: Loss 6 – 0 vs Port Campus
16 Girls – CHAMPIONS
Team: Jessica Hayes, Michaela Elford, Elise
Goodwin, Chloe Johnson-Sullivan, Kate Clarke,
Hannah Faux, Melissa Martin. The girls played
eight games, winning seven to take out the
Hastings Schools Futsal Title. They were a formidable side including 2 under 14 players Hannah and Melissa who were both goal scoring
machines thanks to excellent support from
Jess, Michaela, Elise, Chloe and Kate. The girls
finished second in the pool and played Camden
Haven in the semi-final which they won easily.
In the final they face Port Campus who managed to get a few early shots on goal which
were kept out by our magnificent goal keeper
Elise. After about five minutes the girls settled
in and managed to put three goals in the back
of the net to take out the win. Congratulations girls.
Game 1: Win 5 – 0 vs Westport (white)
Game 2: Win 6 – 0 vs St Columba (white)
Game 3: Win 3 – 0 vs Camden Haven
Game 4: Win 6 – 1 vs Port Campus
Game 5: Win 3 – 2 vs Wauchope
Game 6: Loss 3 – 2 vs St Columba (red)
Semi-Final: Win 6 – 1 vs Camden Haven
Final: Win 3 – 0 vs Port Campus
19 Girls – RUNNER-UP
Team: Elissa McKinnon, Georgia Clarke, Tayla
Heck, Chloe Cooper, Michaela Elford, Jessica
Hayes. The girls played 7 games, winning six
games to finish as the runner-up in the Hastings Schools Futsal Titles. They played with
skill and determination through all their round
games going undefeated to finish at the top of
the pool thanks largely to some excellent goal
keeping by Tayla Heck. They won their semifinal by four goals but just couldn’t get over
the line in the final going down by three goals.
It was a great effort by the girls who have qualified through to the next competition later in
the year.Game 1: Draw 1 – 1 vs Heritage
Game 2: Win 3 – 0 vs St Columba (green)
Game 3: Win 2 – 0 vs Camden Haven

CAREERS CORNER
Year 10 are currently going through the process of subject selections for their senior
years of study. Panel interviews will be held
for all students next week but students who
are unsure about any issues dealing with selections are encouraged to visit the Careers
Office beforehand to sort through concerns
or gain insights into possible selections.
Completed selection sheets are to be returned to the Year 10 Year Adviser Mr Jacobs by Friday 19th June.
23 year 12 students have indicated they will
be attending the Newcastle University
Schools Visit Day on Thursday 25th June. This
excursion will give those students attending
an opportunity to find out information on
degrees offered, accommodation available
and to get a feel for the campus and university life. Please finalise your permission note
and bus fare if attending.
A celebration of 100 years of women in the
police force will be held on the Town Green
on Tuesday 16th June. From 11am recruiting
information and displays on forensics, the
dog squad and police vehicles will be on
show. Senior students interested in a career
in the force and who would like to attend
this celebration are asked to register their
interest by adding their name to the list on
the Careers Office door.
AFS Student Exchange Scholarships are now
on offer for students in Years 9-11. An opportunity to live in another country and
study at a local high school for between 4
weeks and 11 months and receive a scholarship to do so could be yours.
The Future Moves team at Charles Sturt University are conducting their first Senior Success Program for Year 12 students on Tuesday 16th June at their Grant Street Campus
between 6-7.30pm. So far only a single Year
12 student has shown interest in attending.
Expressions of interest need to be returned
ASAP. Last week’s Year 11 program at the
same venue had a very disappointing turnout
with no Westport Campus students in at
tendance.
A number of part time jobs are currently available and have been advertised in the daily notices – visit the Careers Office if you want further
details on these positions or any other of the
above information.
