Crescent Lagoon Swim Club Hello CLSS families! Swim Club is currently taking a break over Winter, however, our Competitive Club Swimmers are still in training. Our pool remains closed while it is being painted. In the meantime, we’ve been swimming at the South Side pool to keep up training. The smaller children are gaining so much more confidence swimming in the big 50 metre pool (this can be a terrifying experience for the younger children as they are unable to touch the bottom as the entire depth of this pool is 2 metres deep). All the children are improving on their fitness so much now that they are swimming 50 metres, without the use of kickboards of flippers, and the older children are improving on their times and agility throughout the course of the longer length pool. Competition time is now here, so, Swim club families, if your child/children would like to swim at the South Side pool, please advise Sonn as she will still be coaching the children. Swim Club have set a date for registration day as Saturday 22nd August. Please, come and support your school’s Club and join up! Currently, ages 7 and under are free to join, and 8 year olds are only half price!! Any enquiries, please contact Sonn Galvin at Puddle of Fun 0418 708 426 or email [email protected] or, send an email to the committee to [email protected] Looking forward to seeing you there! WOOLWORTHS STICKERS Please don’t forget to collect the stickers if you are shopping. Camp Australia Coordinator Mobile: 0421078743 – Wendy Before and After School Care Welcome back to another newsletter update. At Camp Australia OSHC we focus on what experiences we can offer to children that expands on their skills and interests. Our kids really enjoy exploring the outdoors or just being outside and running around to get warm in this cold weather. Once inside we have been extending on manipulation skills with play dough and also our creative side with the addition of our self help collage and craft trolley. Social skills are also a big area that we focus on as a majority of our children this year are all prep – 2. What have our kids been doing? The last 2 weeks has seen us expand on some new and exciting areas for our children to enjoy … we have added another new larger red mat created from recycled plastics … our blue mat in currently a “swimming pool” in the eyes of our younger imaginative children while our new red mat seems to be the mat for construction. The children keep telling us that they need Miss Wendy to get a green one now so that they have “grass” to play on inside. Some very energetic and creative minds at work this week. We have also added so new and exciting dress ups to our home corner which has seen some of the kids looking quite smart and colourful when their parents arrive … certainly some photographic moments :) We have also been enjoying playing lots of group games which is great for team building and social as well as fostering friendships amongst the varying age groups. Our children have also been enjoying the story time we have every Friday afternoon where after afternoon tea we all join Miss Wendy on the mat for a story … our younger kids have really relished this time we spend together on the mat and love the animation in Miss Wendy’s stories. Miss Sheridan and Miss Kaitlyn have been working with getting artsy with our children extending on the children’s ideas where ever they can for them and helping them to come up with ideas for craft experiences while Mr Rion is our sports master and he has been focusing on ball handling skills with our kids who love being outdoors … some days it will be 5 children verses Mr Rion in a very well balanced game of football or soccer. What’s coming up This term we will be working on our next Camp Australia project for the term which will be for the Smith Family Appeal – this Back 2 School Fundraiser assists to provide educational essentials (books and learning support) to disadvantaged kids throughout Australia. This is a worthwhile foundation and any support we can get will be greatly appreciated. We will be starting some fund-raising raffles shortly so please get on board to help support this cause. Important Notices Parents as the weather is still very cold especially of a late afternoon and early morning it is important that you remember that your child will need to be kept very warm. Please ensure that they are wearing warm clothes when they come in especially in the mornings as the hall gets really cold. Warm school jackets or jumpers and long track pants that can be easily removed as the day warms up. This is typically the season we see children getting sick with colds and flu and we can help eliminate this is if we teach our kids that it is ok to be warm, washing our hands after we blow our noses and by making sure that they are turning up with shoes and socks already on their feet. We have had lots of our children away this week because of colds so please be very vigilant with your kids.
