The Supreme Court Ruling on Dred Scott v Sanford p. 443-444
Dred Scott was the slave of an army surgeon from Missouri. He traveled with his master to Illinois
and Wisconsin. He sued for his freedom saying he had become free when he lived in free
territory. The case went to the Supreme Court which said:
