Our Autumn Term Topics
This half term we have been studying Ancient
Greeks and Light & Shadows. We have enjoyed
learning about Greek civilisation, City states in
Ancient Greek times, Greek warfare, Greek beliefs
and Gods, Greek daily life and the impact on
Greece today. This topic culminated in a ‘Greek
Activity Day’ on Wednesday 19th October. On
this day the children tried Greek Dance and
watched a film based on Ancient Greece and tasted some Greek food. In our Literacy lessons we
have studied Greek myths and written our own
Greek stories!
If you would like to help in any of our classes, please speak to your child’s teacher.

Lockerbie Manor
50 pupils and 5 staff had a fabulous residential
trip to Lockerbie Manor. Here the Y6 worked
closely as a team to improve their independence, confidence, self esteem and also to have
lots of fun! We tried: canoeing, kayaking, low
ropes, paddle boarding, high ropes and mountain biking to name a few! We returned all
suitably exhausted but with lifelong memories
of the fun we all had!
Big Maths
Part of our Big Maths CLIC lesson focuses on children knowing these number facts inside out. They will
only be asked to learn a small number of ‘Learn Its’ each week. The children are striving for full marks
three weeks in a row so they can move up to the next level. The children are given their Learn Its to bring
home and these are tested on a Friday. We will keep you updated on your child’s progress in these tests.
Please continue supporting your child to practise their ‘Learn Its’.
Reading at home!
It is vitally important that all children read at home on a regular
basis. In Year 6, children can
choose to read on their own or
with an adult or another child (a
mixture of both is ideal!). To
show their reading at home,
please can you sign your child’s
reading record as this is checked
by teachers on a regular basis.
Every child should aim to read at
home at least 3 times a week.
We appreciate your support with
this!
Spelling!
Year 6 are working hard to improve and develop their spelling. Each week
the children are given 10 key spellings to learn at home and in school. We
ask for children to carry out a couple of spellings activities in their spellings books at home each week and then bring this back into school every
Friday. We have seen some fantastic work done at home so far– Keep up
the good work! Some activities include:
A huge WELL DONE to all children for their fantastic projects
this half term. We have been overwhelmed with the amount of
work and effort the children put into them. They should be very
proud of themselves– because we definitely are!
