WELCOME TO ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA CHURCH WE ARE GLAD YOU COULD JOIN US! DON’T RESIST HAPPINESS ANY LONGER “ The right book at the right time can be life changing” Please join us in becoming the best version of ourselves and strengthening our parish community by participating in a 6 week study of the book “Resisting Happiness” by Matthew Kelly. This book was distributed to parishioners on Easter weekend. We will start our faith journey on Thursday April 27. We will meet at O’Reilly Hall from 7 to 8:30pm. The first session will be “Something Is Missing”, chapters 1 thru 6. If you have any questions or would like to sign up for the book study, please call or text George Tucker at 307-277-3662. We have extra books if you didn’t receive one. Our First Reading from the Acts of the Apostles presents us with a glimpse of the early Church, the early Christian community. This passage is often misunderstood in some ways. When it speaks of “communal life,” that term is based upon a brief translation of a Greek word which means much more than what it might seem. The Greek word is Koinonia (κοινωνία), which is a broad term meaning association, communion, fellowship, and joint participation. It means to share in something. This is an excellent example of stewardship which has meaning for us today. Our parish is a community, one in which we are all called to share and to participate. Koinonia identifies an almost ideal state of fellowship and unity which should exist in the Church, the Body of Christ. It should be more than just attending Mass. The Youth Ministry at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church is currently selling a discount card which is full of offers from various restaurants. All net proceeds will be used to help the youth raise money for retreats. The card sells for $20 & doesn’t expire until April 30, 2018. If you are interested in purchasing a card please call or stop by the church office at 266-2666. Thank you for the support. Youth Group Plate Lunch April 30, 2017 after the 11:00 am Mass. They will be serving 3 different flavors of Baked Chicken, your choice of Roasted Potatoes, Corn, Baked Beans, or Potato Salad with a dinner roll and cookie for dessert. $8.00 for adults & $6.00 per kids. All proceeds are to help support St. Anthony’s Youth Groups. When we speak of stewardship, we understand that it means much more than placing something in the collection basket. It means that we share all of our gifts, our time and talent also, with the community and others in need. It will be difficult for us to ever match the sense of association and the joy of that early Church, but it is a model for us to which we as a faith community should aspire. To be community and to be in communion with one another and with God requires active participation, not passivity. Father Thomas Merton O.C.S.O. once wrote: “The deepest level of communication is not communication, but communion… beyond speech…beyond concept.” Safe Environment Training will be May 2 nd at 6:00 pm in O’Reilly Hall (basement of the Church.) If you have recently done a background check for Eucharist Ministry, Ushering or any volunteering for St. Anthony’s church we need you to come and do a Safe Environment Training. The Safe Environment Training is required per Cheyenne Diocese to be able to do your ministry for the church. If you want to sign up for the training or have any questions please call the Shepherd Staff office at 266-2666. ST. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Our Task Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on the National Day of Prayer. It exists to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, to create appropriate materials, and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families. The Task Force represents a Judeo-Christian expression of the national observance, based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible.
