SUB-NOVICE
Aggressive Doug Speight of
Lansing, never letting Grand
Ledge's Rick Marr out of a
corner, scored with left jabs
and right hooks to earn the
125-pound title by a decision
over a well-conditioned Marr.
IN A battle that saw as
many punches whistle cleanly
through the air as find their
target, Lansing's rangy Albert
Gutierrez fought his way to a
132-pound championship by a
close decision over Dimondale \s determined lefthander,
Bill Goff.
Confident and hard-hitting
Mark Jeffrey of Michigan Center, as adept with his left hand
as his right, battled from a
close first round to a unanimous decision over Grand
Ledge's Don Kunst in their
139-pound title bout.
Michigan Center's Marty
Norment, with the style and
polish of a much more seasoned fighter, floored rugged
G a r y Partridge of Grand
Ledge with a flurfry of blows in
the second round and won the
147-pound crown by a clear-cut
decision.
DON DENNIS of Lansing,
stalking his rangy lefthanded
foe from the opening bell,
scored freely in the third
round and captured the 156pound championship by a TKO
at 1:45 of the last round over
Battle Creek's Doug Jex.
