How to pick your books
Color Scale
Book Icons
We color-code our books to show which titles
would be best for each student. The books are
coded by AR score, a number that many schools
use to find books that are neither too hard nor too
easy for a student.
We also include icons next to each book that help
parents identify books their kids may like.
The first number of an AR score is the grade level
of that book and the second number is the month
within that grade. For example, an AR score of 1.8
means the book is appropriate for a 1st grader in
their 8th month of the school year.
Multicultural
These books explore other races,
countries, and ways of life.
(
If your child is a good reader, pick some books from
the next grade level. Otherwise, pick some books
at or below their grade level to make reading fun.

Permission for Participation and Use of Student Data
Yes! I want my child to be part of our school’s summer reading program, managed by Kids Read Now, and receive up to nine new, free books this
summer, which my child can keep at no cost. My child will receive their first three books at a Family reading Night near the end of the school year.
I permit the Kids Read Now computer to send us weekly voice, text, and/or email messages asking if my child has read a book that week, or with
reading ideas and tips. If we respond, my child will receive another book in the mail from this Wish List . I give permission for my child’s picture
and first name only to be used in Kids Read Now publicity and social media. I also give permission for my school to release reading test scores and
demographic information to evaluate the program. Any data identifying my child will only be seen by confidential program evaluation professionals.
