Interestingly, this is one of the few health occupations in which there is little or no direct contact with patients. The Program Macomb’s Health Information Technology program focuses on the information needs of health care. You’ll be prepared with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage health care data used to support patient care, make business and clinical decisions, conduct research, evaluate services, and contribute to the development of computer-based patient records. The program offers state-of-the-art computer equipment and software in a dedicated health information technology laboratory. Professional practice classes are supervised learning experiences in health care facilities where you practice under qualified health information management professionals. Employment Outlook A CAREER OPTION This health care profession is in the spotlight and one of the fastest-growing fields in the U.S. The pressing issue of properly managing and protecting patient health information has steadily increased the demand for health information technology professionals, the gatekeepers of this critical data. With an associate degree, a graduate may be employed as a Health Data Analyst, Insurance Claims Analyst, Records Technician Specialist, Clinical Coding Specialist, Physician Practice Manager, Patient Information Coordinator, Clinical Documentation Specialist, HIM Revenue Cycle Auditor, Cancer or Trauma Registrar.
