Where Health Care Meets Cutting-Edge Technology
Health Information Technology personnel are experts in managing patient health information, administering computer
information systems, and coding the diagnosis and procedures for health care services provided to patients.
Interestingly, this is one of the few health occupations in which there is little or no direct contact with patients.
The Program
Macomb’s Health Information Technology program focuses on the information needs of health care. You’ll be prepared
with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage health care data used to support patient care, make business
and clinical decisions, conduct research, evaluate services, and contribute to the development of computer-based
patient records.
The program offers state-of-the-art computer equipment and software in a dedicated health information technology
laboratory. Professional practice classes are supervised learning experiences in health care facilities where you
practice under qualified health information management professionals.
As a graduate of the program, you’ll be eligible to take the national certification examination of AHIMA for the
designation of Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). For more information visit www.ahima.org.
The Health Information Technology program is taught by health information management professionals with years of
practical experience. They’re dedicated to preparing you for both the professional challenges and the rewards that a
career in Health Information Technology can offer.
