May 2017 Dear Parent/Guardian EDUCATIONAL STUDY VISIT – PARIS, FRANCE/YPRES, BELGIUM We would like to offer our current Year 8 and 9 students the opportunity to participate in a cultural and historical educational visit to France and Belgium in July 2018. The trip will be of 6 days duration with a programme of leisure and cultural excursions. This will serve as a means of broadening cultural experience as well as developing confidence in the use of spoken French in everyday situations. The historical element of the trip will include visits to a number of sites connected with the battlefields of the First World War, including the town of Ypres to witness the Last Post ceremony. This will enable students to gain a greater understanding of the scale of the sacrifices made during the conflict, which is of particular relevance during the ongoing commemorations of the First World War centenary. The provisional date for departure is 11.00pm on Saturday 14 July 2018, returning on Friday 20 July 2018. The cost is calculated at £650 per person (subject to numbers). An initial deposit of £50 will be required, which is to be handed-in to the main school office in an envelope marked FRANCE/BELGIUM 2018 by WEDNESDAY 7 JUNE 2017. Included in the price will be: 4 nights full board accommodation, including packed lunches, at the Explorers Hotel, Disneyland Paris and 1 night full board at the Peace Village, Ypres Fully comprehensive insurance Return cross-channel ferry, Dover-Calais Executive coach travel for the duration of the trip All trips and visits undertaken during the trip. These provisionally include a day visit to Disneyland Paris, sightseeing in central Paris, the Eiffel Tower, the Palace of Versailles, a boat trip along the Seine, Montmartre and the Sacré Coeur and visits to Somme and Ypres battlefield sites. If you would like your son/daughter to take part in the educational study visit, please complete and return the reply slip below with an initial deposit of £50 (Please make cheques payable to Bishop Rawstorne C of E Academy Trust Fund). Places will be allocated following the selection criteria approved by the Governing Body. Any unsuccessful students will be placed on a reserve list in the first instance. Any place offered on an educational visit is conditional and may subsequently be reviewed and withdrawn by the Senior Leadership Team of the school if a student's presence is identified as being potentially prejudicial to the health and safety of those participating in the visit.
