Happy New Year from Administrator
Hello Friends, Residents, Family and
Staff of Martin Luther Campus. I pray
that you had a wonderful Christmas
season and found time to enjoy the little
things during this busy time of year. We
had many festive and fun events on the
Martin Luther Campus for our residents,
families, and volunteers! A few of my
favorites included the Meadow Woods
"Home for the Holidays" Party, the
Christmas Service at both Martin Luther
Care Center and Meadow Woods and
of course the many groups who came in
to carol for us.
We have had a fun and exciting year
on the Martin Luther Campus. Campus
Club, our onsite Adult Day
Program, has settled into their new
home. Campus Club is once
again located on the lower level of the
Care Center and we are glad to see
them back with us! It is such a pleasure
to see the participants laughing and
enjoying activities. Martin Luther Care
Center added two bunnies to our family,
named Pepper and Nalah. If you have
not visited them yet, their home is in the
Art Studio, stop by and say
hello! We reconstructed the walkway
between Meadow Woods and Martin
Luther Care Center. We also created a
beautiful Memorial Garden with walking
paths for residents and their families to
enjoy. We will be hosting a Memorial
Garden Grand Opening in spring of
2017, when things start greening and
flowers start to bloom. Watch for details
to come.
As 2016 draws to a close, we are
grateful to have had the opportunity to
serve you and your loved ones and look
forward to the many wondrous things to
come in 2017!
Wishing you a happy and safe New
Year!
–Jody Barney, MLC Administrator

A Hidden Gift of Friendship in Adult Day Clubs
Pam and Janice
My name is Janice R. I have been
wheelchair bound for close to thirty
years now. I had very little social life
so it was suggested to me to join an
Adult Day program. I attended a few
day programs and decided it was not
for me.
Then someone referred me to an
Ebenezer Adult Day Program. I
agreed to try it for six weeks. I really
didn’t think I was going to like it. At
first, I decided I was too good for the
program, but soon I realized Creekside
Adult Day program was just what I
needed. The people were very nice,
there was neither judgement nor
criticism from anybody. Everyone was
very respectful of each other. The staff
is understanding, patient and kind.
They work very hard to create
programs and activities for everyone
to enjoy.
To top it off, I met a very dear friend
at Creekside named Pam. She is a very
lovely lady with a reassuring smile
and there is nothing we wouldn’t do
for each other. We’ve become so close
we even visit each other outside of
Creekside. I’ve had her over for dinner
several times and we’ve even done
some outings to our favorite stores
together. Pam is a joy to be around. If
I had not joined Creekside Day
program I would have never met her
and we would have missed out on this
wonderful friendship. We enjoy
outings to restaurants, museums,
movies, concerts and many other
places a few times a month. At
Creekside every day is like a party! I
attend Creekside four days a week and
finding a friend is just one of the perks
of attending. I’m so glad I found
Creekside, a place where I can be
myself and be surrounded by such
welcoming and understanding people.
We’re ecSTATIC that
you’re staying
connected!

We LOVE our volunteers! In fact
we don’t know what we’d do
without them. They help us out in
so many amazing ways. So it was
great when we got to help out one
of our volunteers, Maddie Mott,
receive the NETA scholarship by
writing a letter of recommendation.

Just to Note for MLCC Families/Residents
Martin Luther Campus is dedicated
to providing the highest quality of
care to our residents. At the care
center, we will be implementing
iPads for documentation purposes
in early 2017. With the iPads, the
care center’s nursing assistants
will be able to chart at the
residents’ bedside. The goal of
implementing the iPads will be to
capture timely and accurate
documentation.

"As a full time student at
Normandale, I have had the
opportunity to be involved in multiple
Service Learning activities; however,
volunteering at Martin Luther
Campus has had the most
significant influence on me
interpersonally, as well as on my
future studies.
Volunteering at Martin Luther was
my first time working with an elderly
population and at first I was acutely
intimidated because I did not know
what to expect. It was difficult to
step outside of my comfort zone, but
in their professionalism, Martin
Luther created a supportive and
purposeful learning environment.
Though it was challenging, the
outcomes were unconditionally
rewarding. As a student, I often
times find myself just memorizing
facts for grades, but through Martin
Luther Campus I realized that the
most valuable education is learned
through experiences that are seen
by the eyes and felt by the heart.
Finding value in hands-on education
makes learning more productive and
actions more purposeful.
I have grown to believe that every
stage of life is precious and that we
should find value in giving back to
those who have already given so
much. Volunteering at Martin Luther
Campus through Service Learning
has changed me eternally as I have
learned to further value education
both in the classroom and in
experiential learning environments.
As a person, I have learned to be
more empathetic, compassionate,
and thankful to everyone in my life. I
find enduring passion for the
community I volunteered alongside
of at Martin Luther and I have faith
that I will further my studies in order
to work with a similar community in
the future."
