MESSAGE
HYMN
MATKA AND/OR MUTTI
IN CHRIST THERE IS NO EAST OR WEST
In Christ there is no East or West,
in him no South or North,
but one great fellowship of love
throughout the whole wide earth.
In him shall true hearts everywhere
their high communion find,
his service is the golden cord
close-binding all mankind.
Join hands, disciples of the faith,
whate'er your race may be!
Who serves my Father as a child
is surely kin to me.
In Christ now meet both East and West,
in him meet South and North,
all Christly souls are one in him,
throughout the whole wide earth.

PRELUDE
WELCOME AND GREETING
CALL TO WORSHIP
from Psalm 90
O Lord, my heart is not lifted up;
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvelous for me.
But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a child with its mother is my soul within me.
PRAYER OF ADORATION
Eternal God, we have gathered to worship and adore You. We who are
caught in the unrelenting march of time and the confusing pace of
change, turn to You who art eternal and unchanging. By Your Holy Spirit
help us to feel Your Presence and to hear Your Word that we may find
peace and hope for the living of our days. Amen.
HYMN
JOYFUL, JOYFUL, WE ADORE THEE
Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day!
Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blessed,
Wellspring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our Brother, all who live in love are Thine;
Teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine.
FIRST SCRIPTURE LESSON
1 Kings 3:16-28
Then two prostitutes came to the king and stood before him. The one
woman said, “Oh, my lord, this woman and I live in the same house, and
I gave birth to a child while she was in the house. Then on the third day
after I gave birth, this woman also gave birth. And we were alone. There
was no one else with us in the house; only we two were in the house. And
this woman's son died in the night, because she lay on him. And she arose
at midnight and took my son from beside me, while your servant slept, and
laid him at her breast, and laid her dead son at my breast. When I rose in
the morning to nurse my child, behold, he was dead. But when I looked at
him closely in the morning, behold, he was not the child that I had borne.”
But the other woman said, “No, the living child is mine, and the dead child
is yours.” The first said, “No, the dead child is yours, and the living child is
mine.” Thus they spoke before the king.
Then the king said, “The one says, ‘This is my son that is alive, and your
son is dead’; and the other says, ‘No; but your son is dead, and my son is
the living one.’” And the king said, “Bring me a sword.” So a sword was
brought before the king. And the king said, “Divide the living child in two,
and give half to the one and half to the other.” Then the woman whose son
was alive said to the king, because her heart yearned for her son, “Oh, my
lord, give her the living child, and by no means put him to death.” But the
other said, “He shall be neither mine nor yours; divide him.” Then the king
answered and said, “Give the living child to the first woman, and by no
means put him to death; she is his mother.” And all Israel heard of the
judgment that the king had rendered, and they stood in awe of the king,
because they perceived that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.

SECOND SCRIPTURE LESSON
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or
rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it
does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all
things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
