Newsletter
8th March 2013
Dear Parents and Carers,
I am very happy to report that the school is fully functioning following our flood last week and that many of
the repair works will be carried out over the Easter holidays.
Parents of Year 7 and 8 will have heard of our plans for the Malala Campaign Sleep Over at the school
(Friday 19th April) organised by our Year 10 students, which promises to be a really exciting event. Can I
remind everyone that reply slips need to be returned to us on Monday.
Congratulations to our Year 11 students, and their families, who have once again achieved fantastic results
following the January module exams. Keep up the good work girls and success will be yours!
This Saturday, I am looking forward to seeing our Year 9 students compete in the National Magistrates
Mock Trials at the Bow Magistrate Courts.
Happy International Women’s Day.

popular that they sold out in 7 minutes.
They raised £23.80. Well done!
Building Game Challenge 2013
On Monday at EHX, Greenwich Education and Business Partnership delivered a challenge to all Year 7
students who had to collaborate and work creatively to solve a problem. The students worked in teams of
six to experience different job roles within the construction industry; Project Manager, Site Supervisor,
Quantity Surveyor, Marketing Executive, Architect and Building Contractor.
The main aim was to replicate a model building which is hidden
and can only be viewed by certain team members.
Paula, the presenter from GEBP said, “I found it very difficult to
choose a winning team as three teams finished very close
together but I am choosing ‘Dynamic Industries’ as overall winners
due to their fantastic team work.”
Congratulations to ‘Dynamic Industries’ who proved true to their
name and won the challenge. Well done to Aguda, Elisa, Anna,
Lailaa, Maiesha and Bukola from 7L.

Careers Speed Networking
As part of National Careers Week (4th-8th March 2013), a Speed Networking
Event took place at EHX on Wednesday. Ten volunteers who represented a
range of professions were invited to take part, five of whom had supported the
school last year.
Students were able to extend their knowledge about a variety of careers in an
informal setting, actively participated in a thoughtful and courteous way and were
a great credit to themselves and the school. The event was a great success with
both the students in Year 9 and the volunteers. Well done Year 9.
Comments from students:
… I’ve now found the career that I really want to do…great opportunity to meet so many different
professional people…you can wear glasses and still be a pilot…needed more time to talk to them…
Feedback from the volunteers:
..the students’ enthusiasm to find out more...asked some searching questions about what my job was really
like…offering students a valuable opportunity that I never had at school…happy to be involved…receptive
and polite girls…
The Volunteers: Parminder Bahra (Journalist), Ian Gray
(Video/Film Editor), Debra Todd (BP Banking), Hannah Akta
(Pharmacist), Diane Godwin (Chartered Accountant), Nicola
Ashley (Public Relations), David Sawkins (BA Pilot), Piers
Vernon-Kell (Fashion Photographer), Kelly Davids (Surveyor)
and Jack Bird (Design Engineer).
