1. Vocabulary development
a) Read all of the words below and make sure you know /understand their
meaning
b) Write a complete sentence for each word the following words. That means 10
sentences in all!
Words are: top, ship, across, today, during, short, better, best, however, low.
2. Sentence development; add an adjective and an adverb to each sentence. A
list of adverbs is provided on the school website (entitled: adverbs). You should
have 9 sentences in total!
Ex. The dog is barking.
The big dog is barking. adjective
The big dog is barking loudly. Adverb
a) The whale is singing.
b) The bicycle is turning.
c) The pilot is flying.
3. Find and list 5 adjectives.
4. You and your family want to bury a time capsule in your yard.
Write a paragraph of FIVE to TEN sentences maximum, in which you list 4
things you would put in your time capsule, give a reason for each item . Write
complete sentences including various parts of speech such as: articles, nouns,
verbs, adjectives and adverbs.
5. a) Look up in an English dictionary 5 words beginning with the letter “D ” .
b) Write down the words you have found.
c) Choose only three of your words and write a sentence ( total of 3) using each
new word.

6. a) Read the following text.
The Arctic Ocean
The Arctic Ocean is the smallest and coldest ocean in the world. It stretches from
the North Pole to Asia, Europe, and North America. The Arctic Ocean is mostly
covered in sea ice all year. It is home to walruses, polar bears, and whales.
Because the ocean is so cold, few plants and animals can live there.
The Arctic Ocean covers 5.4 million square miles. It is smaller than all other
oceans. It is also the shallowest ocean. The temperature of the Arctic Ocean stays
around 32 degrees Fahrenheit (zero degrees Celsius). The large amount of sea ice
in the ocean stops its temperature from changing too much. However, much of
the ice in the Arctic Ocean is melting because of global warming.
b) Find five key words that identify the main idea from the text:
