A: Follow-You printing is a stored printing system which allows you print from around campus. You can authenticate at any of the Follow-You printers located at various places on campus to release the documents when and where it suits you. Choose from FollowYou-Colour or FollowYou-BlackAndWhite and release the job at any of the card scanner printers on campus. Follow-You printing means you won’t lose documents by someone else picking them up, you won’t waste your money and you won’t have to worry if you are printing sensitive documents. Your documents are not printed until you are ready to collect them, and remain in the queue for a maximum of 24 hours. They can be released at any of the card scanner printers and will be printed when you wave your ID card at your chosen printer. Q: How does Follow-You Printing work? A: You can print to one of the Follow-You print queues at your computer and the print job goes to the MFD of your choice. Log-in to the MFD by waving your Canterbury Card and select the print job from your queue. Any print jobs that were not released within 24 hours are deleted from the queue. Page 2 of 8 Printing & Photocopying Q: Why would I want to use Follow-You Printing? A: It saves you time and money for printing to the wrong printer, Lets you change your mind about printing after you’ve clicked Print, It is useful for handing in your assignments on different campuses, Good option if your local printer is broken, out of paper or busy. Q: What should I expect from Follow-You Printing? A: One-time registering of your Canterbury Card against your account at one of the card scanner MFDs. Card wave to Print, Photocopy or Scan to Email on card scanner MFDs. You can login on the MFD screen to use it even if you don’t have your card with you. Canterbury Card Account - login to a web page lets you see the cost of a job before you release it as well as historical information about your Canterbury Card transactions. https://canterburycardaccount.canterbury.ac.nz Printers without Card Scanners - not all MFDs on campus will have card scanners on them so cannot be used with Follow-You queues. These will mostly be MFDs in departments and some smaller printers. These are accessed from a direct queue (with a name that reflects its location) and the job prints out immediately just like all our current print queues. When your account balance goes negative: like currently, you can’t print if your account goes negative. Under the new system when you send a job to the printer it works out if you have enough credit and won’t print if you don’t. It is possible to get a negative balance through internet or Library charges, as these also go on your Canterbury Card Account. Centralised print accounting – all students now pay the same, reduced price rate for printing anywhere on campus http://www.icts.canterbury.ac.nz/service-catalogue/charges/ Location of Follow-You MFDs - http://www.canterbury.ac.nz/maps/home under Libraries and computer workrooms. You have the opportunity to select and delete any jobs you decide not to print. Alternatively they will expire and deleted from your print queue automatically 24 hours after being submitted to the queue. Page 3 of 8 Printing & Photocopying Q: How do I check the cost of a job before I print it? A: Login to your Canterbury Card Account https://canterburycardaccount.canterbury.ac.nz. You can check your print jobs in the <View jobs> tab. Note: You have the opportunity to select and delete any jobs you decide not to print. Alternatively they will expire and deleted from your print queue automatically 24 hours after being submitted to the queue. Time remaining before the print job disappears from the queue Cost to print the document Page 4 of 8 Printing & Photocopying Q: How do I view reports on my Canterbury Card Account? A: 1. Login to your Canterbury Account https://canterburycardaccount.canterbury.ac.nz. You can check the history of your activities in the <Reports> tab. Note: In some browsers the popup window will be blocked so you need to click on the icon of a window with a red cross and tick the radio button “Always allow pop-ups from https://canterburycardaccount.canterbury.ac.nz” Click this icon to unblock popup window. Select “Always allow pop-ups from https://canterburycardaccount.canterbury.ac.nz” 2. Select the type of report that you want and click <View selected report>. Page 5 of 8 Printing & Photocopying 3. The report appears in a separate browser window. The account activity reports include: Your print jobs: o Type – print, o Description - the name of the document o Pages (number) o Paid (cost) Your photocopy jobs: o Type – copy o Description – PCC:Copy o Pages (number) o Paid (cost) Your scans: o Type – scan o Description – scan o Pages (number) o Paid (0.00) Internet charges (above your quota) Library fines Fine Arts charges 4. When you have finished click on the Canterbury Card Account tab in your browser and logout (top right hand corner). Page 6 of 8 Printing & Photocopying Q: How do I login to the Multi-Functional Devices (MFDs)? A: You can login to the MFDs by waving your Canterbury Card over the card reader, if you are already registered. You can also use the MFD control panel if you do not have not your Canterbury Card with you.
