WHAT IS LSD?
AKA: Acid, Tab, Blotter, L, Doses, Dots, Trips.
LSD is a powerful hallucinogen. This means that users are likely to
hallucinate when they take it and experience a distortion of objects and
reality. This may include seeing and hearing things that aren’t there. This is
known as a ‘trip’.
LSD is usually sold as tiny squares of paper with pictures on them known as
‘tabs’ or ‘blotters’. These are swallowed. It can also be found as a liquid or as
tiny pellets.
THE EFFECTS
The effects of LSD are unpredictable and last between 6 and 12 hours.
They will depend on your mood, your surroundings and who you are
with. If you are in a bad mood, worried or depressed, LSD will make these
feelings worse.
A ‘good’ trip can make users feel happy, relaxed and spaced-out.
A ‘bad’ trip can make them feel anxious, panicky and confused.
Hallucinations can be unpleasant or even terrifying. Users may see giant
insects, the devil or witches or may feel as if they are dying. Once a trip
has started, there is no way you can stop it.
When the effects have worn off, users may feel tired and depressed.
They may also experience ‘flashbacks’ (where part of the trip is relived).
Flashbacks usually occur within weeks of taking LSD, but can be
experienced months or even years later.
THE RISKS
Users have been known to hurt themselves while hallucinating e.g. walking
into the road.
LSD can make mental health problems much worse. It can also trigger
mental health problems if they already run in the family.
THE LAW
LSD is a Class A drug which means that it is illegal to possess, give away or sell.
