Ian BARRIE

Ian is a Consultant and Instructor for Airport Solutions Ltd, a UK based company specialising in the
provision of training and advice for airports, regulators and airlines worldwide.
Ian has 34 years’ experience gained across a broad spectrum of the aviation industry. He has worked in a
variety of operational and senior management roles and was previously Chief Operating Officer at
Swissport, responsible for several companies within their European division.
Ian specialises in the mentoring and development of managers at all levels, business change
management, airport ground operations (including Terminal operations and customer service) and Airport
Collaborative Decision Making (ACDM; the initiative to maximise the use of airspace and airport capacity).
His previous experience working closely with pilots and ground crew brings an added dimension to his
airfield operations and safety management knowledge.
Ian has a deep understanding of the challenges faced at all levels of the aviation industry and has
successfully delivered organisational change within several large companies during his career. He has
also been responsible for devising new processes and methods for providing a safe, efficient, on-time
service at major airports.
Apart from his on-going ACDM research and consultancy projects, Ian is also working with a major aircraft
manufacturer on the use of aircraft-generated data which may be integrated into other areas of the
industry. Other recent assignments include the delivery of a significant management mentoring/training
programme for a major airport operator in the Middle East. Ian was also responsible for the management
of preparations for EURO 2012 at Kharkiv Airport Ukraine on behalf of UEFA, covering every aspect of
airport operations.
Ian has a technical background in Departure Control Systems, weight and balance and during his career.
He was a licensed Boeing 747F Loadmaster and FAA-approved long haul/ETOPS dispatcher.
