Justification:
This species is widespread and occurs in many more then 10 independent populations. Its population is
believed to be declining but not at a rate to qualify for NT or a threatened category. It is therefore
assessed as LC.
Geographic Range
Range Description:
Widespread in the Euphrates and Tigris drainage.
Country Occurrence:
Native: Iran, Islamic Republic of; Iraq; Syrian Arab Republic; Turkey (Turkey-in-Asia)

There are no comprehensive population data on this species available which is believed to decline in
natural waters due to many ongoing threats but might have build up large populations in reservoirs.
Current Population Trend: Decreasing

Inhabits large rivers, marshes, lakes and reservoirs.
Systems: Freshwater
Use and Trade
Locally taken as a food fish.
Threats
There are many threats in the area affection this species but none seem to be strong enough to let the
species decline so fast, that it qualify for a threat category.
Conservation Actions
There are some closed seasons for fishing in the area inhabited.
