The historic market town of Alnwick is famous as the home of the Duke of Northumberland,
Alnwick Castle and Gardens, and of course now a magnet for all Harry Potter fans. There is an
excellent range of town centre amenities, sporting, leisure and social activities including schooling
for all ages. Alnwick is just 5.0 miles to the south west.

History of Stamford Lea
Black Rock Forge is an imposing, classically designed double fronted Northumbrian country
house. It is believed to have been home to the village blacksmith with the attached forge
building now converted to form a very comfortable living room, which retains the forge chimney
as an inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove. In recent years this building had been used as
additional accommodation to the Masons Arms pub next door, now being developed. The name
of Black Rock is believed to come from the local Whinsill rock which is used in the construction
of many of the older homes in the immediate area. The current building is thought to date from
the early 1800s with a later 1900 rear extension. The property is now being further extended to form
a stunning, family dining kitchen to the rear with rural views and direct access to the landscaped
gardens via bi-folding doors.
The Masons Arms pub had been a traditional coaching inn dating from the early 1800s which
is also built with the local black rock. The existing traditional structure is currently being converted
and extended to form two, individual, spacious family homes, one with additional accommodation
to the rear of the property. Great care is being taken in the architectural design to work with
this historic building in planning the best possible modern living spaces, whilst repairing and
refurbishing the building fabric.
