CHARACTER TRAIT FOR FEBRUARY– RESPECT
STUDENTS:
OFF CAMPUS It is important that students do not leave campus for any reason once they have arrived. Unless a
REMINDER
parent or guardian signs you out, you must remain at Balboa until the end of the day. This includes
leaving campus after being dropped off in the morning to go to Von’s or Starbucks. This is never allowed.
Thank you. – Dr. Underhill
HOVER
BOARDS
Students may not bring hover boards to school. The law requires riders of hover boards to be at least
16 years old and to wear a helmet. No student at Balboa is 16, so no student may ride to school or home
on a hover board. – Dr. Underhill
BLACK
February is Black History Month. Have you heard of: Harriet Tubman?
She earned the nickname, “The Black Moses” after successfully leading hundreds of enslaved Africans
to freedom in the north from plantations in the south using a network of trails and safe houses that
became known as the Underground Railroad starting in 1894. When the Civil War started in 1861, Harriet
was first a cook, then a nurse before becoming the first armed scout and spy for the Union Army during
the Civil War.
