General Graff and Anderson are conversing over the innocence of “the little kids.” Read the
conversation on pages 66-67 between the two adults.
You are to write a 5 paragraph essay regarding ONE of the following prompts. Essays are to be in MLA
format-- HANDWRITTEN. Due date is 9/11 and 9/12 (depending on which day I see you). Start with a
bubble map to organize your thoughts.
1. Compare/Contrast “normal” childhood experiences and behavior to the “abnormal” behavior of
the “launchies”.
2. When is one too young to have such high expectations as being a soldier? There are many
countries recruiting young boys to fight the battles of the adults, what is an acceptable age for
one to take on the responsibilities and burdens of battle?
3. Is it surprising to read a conversation in which compassion is shown, between adults regarding
the wellbeing of a child they did not know before battle school? How is this relevant to the
book’s theme of being the “alpha male”?
