Summary
The Bureau of Intelligence and Investigations-Case Review Unit is seeking Deputy Sheriff’s from the
Cook County Department of Corrections and Court Services Department. BII-Case Review Investigators
are responsible reviewing incidents involving any use of force, detainee injury, assault upon a member,
contraband, allegation of member misconduct, and other corresponding issues, and ensure that proper
corrective action or recommended procedure changes are identified. The Case Review Unit is responsible
for notifying the appropriate executive staff about an incident within four hours of identifying the
incident.

 2200 hrs.- 0600 hrs., Detail 2 and Detail 7
 Due to the 24/7 operation of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office management reserves the right to
assign staff as necessary to details and working hours, flexibility to change hours and RDO’s as
needed by the Sheriff’s Office is required.
Minimum Qualifications -Applicants that fail to meet any one of the minimum qualifications listed
below will be deemed Not Qualified.

Must successfully submit an Internal Application according to the application Instructions below.
Must be in an active duty status at time of application.
Must currently hold the merit rank of Deputy Sheriff or correctional officer and have been in the
rank for a minimum of one (1) year.
Must submit to an oral interview consisting of job related and personal attribute questions. The
personal attribute questions are aimed to evaluate if a candidate possesses the necessary
characteristics to work within the Bureau of Intelligence and Investigations-Case Review Unit.
Must submit to a two part written exam consisting of a writing sample and operational questions.
Must be authorized to carry a weapon by the Sheriff’s Office, possess a valid FOID Card and be
in compliance with any and all city ordinances.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Must meet attendance requirements as stated in SEAM Article H.III.J
Must meet discipline requirements as stated in SEAM Article H.III.I.
Must consent to and pass a financial background check as stated in SEAM Article H.III.S.6.
Requirements -A candidate that fails to meet the position requirements will be returned to his or her
original assignment. These requirements include but are not limited to the following:

Must be flexible to change hours and days off as needed by the Sheriff’s Office.
Must wear designated appropriate dress attire unless otherwise directed by the Department
Head/Designee.

Applications are also available at the Bureau of Human Resources located at 3026 S. California,
Building #2, 1st Floor, Monday through Friday between 0800 and 1600 hours.
Candidates must complete all sections of the Internal Application.
Candidates may submit a resume with their application if they choose.
Internal Applications will be accepted and time stamped at the Bureau of Human Resources
between 0800 and 1600 hours, Monday through Friday

Higher Education/Outside Training/Military - Applicants may receive up to 60 points for the
completion of post-secondary education in accordance with the following:
1. Education
a. Associate Degree –20 points;
b. Undergraduate Degree – 40 points;
c. Post Graduate – 60 points;
d. The applicant will receive credit for only the highest level of education achieved, not a cumulative
total for all degrees;
e. Points will be awarded only for degrees verified by an original transcript or through primary source
verification, such as an education clearing house.
2. Applicants may receive 20 points for work-relevant training received outside of the CCSO.
a. The training must be for a minimum of 40-hours and be verified by a certificate or credential.
b. A maximum of 20 points will be awarded regardless of the number of trainings completed.
3. Applicants will be given 20 points for an honorable discharge from at least 2 years of military service,
verified through DD214 documentation.
4. The maximum number of points an applicant may receive in total for education, training and military
service is 100.
5. All documentation concerning education, training and military service should be provided by the
employee (Deputy Sheriff/Correctional officer) at the time of interview and Copies of all documents
verifying education/training and military service will be placed in the applicant's file.
6. Education/training/military service is weighted at 10%.

Selection Process
All candidates deemed Qualified based on the Minimum Qualifications will be ranked based on their total
point score obtained from the following categories. In the event of a tie score, the Candidate with the most
seniority shall receive the higher rank.

Mandatory drug testing upon entering, random drug testing during and mandatory drug testing upon leaving the
Unit. This is in addition to the Sheriff’s Drug Workplace Policy.
Candidates selected will be subject to a probationary period of one year from the start date of the Non-Bid Transfer
to the Unit.
