Microarray
Need to identify a gene? Get a better picture of gene interactions? DNA Microarrays
or "genomic chips" feature thousands of spots of bound DNA fragments—all known
and catalogued. When a complementary sequence of sample sticks, you know what
gene you’re dealing with—and how much it’s being expressed! The cDNA spotted
on microarrays are typically PCR products, amplified from plasmid miniprep DNA
of cDNA clones. These arrays are then hybridized with cDNA probes. For microarray
applications, high fidelity PCR products are a must.
Cycle Sequencing
What bases do you have, and in what order? Cycle sequencing combines the
traditional dideoxy method with DNA amplification—including heat denaturation,
primer annealing, and polymerase extension. Only a small amount of template DNA
is needed, and secondary structure isn’t a problem. Choose one of Fisher’s cycle
sequencing kits, and the whole procedure is a snap!
High-Throughput Screening
Forget the test tube—think miniature! Very small reagent volumes in each well mean
scores of tiny reaction sites within a single microplate. Add robotic pipetters and plate
handlers—and you’ve got huge numbers of standardized reactions in a short period
